explain it to me one more time and try and make sense (or simply find a link) - if the referee decides when a KD has happened (rather then as you suggested earlier - the judges lol) then once the referee has made that decision (that a KD has occurred) how does he instruct the judges? (bearing in mind we agree in all the other standard instances a point is deducted)

10-8 a KD completely cancels everything out in the rest of the round IMO

and that's why there are so many messed up score cards.if fighter A wins the round, but got knocked down by fighter B, then it's a 10-10 even round.

Should be 10-9 instead of 10-8

Yes, it's wrong. If you can beat up a guy, or out slick him for 2:50 seconds, and he puts YOU down, how is that 10-9? 10-8 all the way...

If you can't put a guy down, and you beat him up, or out slick him for a round, and he puts you down, again, how is that 10-9 or 10-10?

:patsch it's easy...

fighter A wins the round, so it's 10-9 to him.

but, if fighter B knock's him down in the process (you only get 1 point for a knock down)that takes away fighter A's 1 point lead, making it an even round.

see now, it's very easy maths to work out.. well, if you have a brain it is.

the proper score in this scenario would be 10-10.

Except for one thing, you shouldn't say "other than the knockdown punch he lost the round clearly". You should've simply said that he lost the round despite that KD punch. That punch has to be included in scoring the round, even before you deduct a point for the KD

Exactly...

If your put on your arse you lost the round 10-8 because you were stupid enough to get caught.

from the Wiki entry for professional boxing (under the heading scoring):

"For each knockdown in a round, the judge deducts an additional point from the fighter knocked down"

[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_boxing[/ame]

lol

and from here

http://everything2.com/title/Boxing+scoring

which references
Kaczmarek, Tom, "You be the Boxing Judge", Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc. (Pittsburgh, PA, 1996)
Lederman, Harold, "Harold Lederman on Scoring", hbo.com, 2000

"For each round, judges determine the score using the ten-point must system. This means that (usually) the winner of the round gets ten points, and the loser gets nine points. There are exceptions to this rule. For example, when a fighter is knocked down, that fighter loses a point. So if the fighter that was knocked down loses the round the score would be 10 to 8 for that round. If the fighter that was knocked down wins the round (which is rare) the score would be 9 to 9."

I am still sticking with 9/9

In Fight Night Round 4 you can get knocked down and win the round, then the scores show a 9-9 round. Don't know what that's worth though.

I immediately thought of the Martinez-Williams fight.

I believe it was the 1st round, Williams got an off balance knockdown of martinez, but maravilla came back and blasted him at the end of round with a right hand. Had their been 10 more seconds left Williams would have been on the floor, I have no doubt
