I agree, as far as I understand the rules on scoring a round if fighter A gets knocked down but won the round apart from that it should be 9-9, but I have never once heard of a judge actually scoring a round like that.
So, the difference in opinion seems to regard what is significant. I do not contest that two men can be split, but I wonder if there is any point on occasion.
i completely agree i scored some of the opening rounds of froch dirrell as a draw dirrell did more but not enough to make a difference with me for anyone who is interested I had dirrell winning by 1 round
I've always been a fan of even rounds if there ain't a clear winner....no unjust victory that way. i think fights would be a lot easier to judge if every round that wasn't clearly won was scored even... it'd also force fighters to fight more to bank rounds.
I don't know if there is a specific rule, but I agree with you. We see cases of knockdowns that are really little more than a slip, and we see cases where a knockdown is pretty much meaningless. In my mind those are not 10-8 rounds.
Some people have argued on here that their interpretation of "ten point must" means that the loser of a round scoring a KD means it's 10-10, not 9-9. I think that's ******ed. If you win a round (at least two and a half minutes of it), but get knocked down - or have a point taken away by the ref - you shouldn't get ten points. It's 10-9 because you won the round, minus the one point for being knocked down or penalized. They're called deductions for a reason. So my feeling is that you are correct. That would be a 9-9 round. Many people on here have passionately argued it the other way. I don't know what the official rules are.
I want to clarify my earlier post. This highlighted post is what should be strived for, but the 10/10 should come into effect in a real tight round. In other words, being for 10/10 rounds does not mean tossing them around randomly but should be rare cases for tough spots.
BOORADLEY and INTENTIONALBUTT so we agree, and yeah it pisses me off so much when anytime there's a knockdown, regardless of whatever happens in the rest of the round, it's always 10-8 to the guy who scored the kd. Like we said, it's not always the case, really **** i think.
I think point deductions technically aren't meant to be taken away until the end of the fight - i.e. if a point gets taken from fighter A in the third and he wins the round 10-9, it's still 10-9 for that round and if he gets say 116 points at the end, the point gets taken from that so it's only 115. So there is maybe a case for saying thats different from the flash knockdown scenario, which maybe could be 10-10. It's very pedantic though I suppose.
