What your thoughts on these. Personally I never score a round even. I just think if your able to score 1 round like that, you could have 6 or 7 even rounds. I know some of you are big on it. Whats your thoughts?
I try not to but sometimes a round is even. I won't find a winner for the sake of it or for a poor reason but if I have more than 2 even rounds in a fight I'd probably look at it again.
If I watch a round and can't seperate the two fighters, then I watch it again. If I still can't seperate them then its a 10-10. This is obviously when watching older fights. If I'm watching a fight live then I just give the 10-10 straight away if I can't seperate them. I hate how the American commentators use the phrase "how do you score a round like that?" when its really tight. Its a stupid thing to say. The facility to score an even round is there for a reason - to be used in cirmcumstances were the round is too close to call for a particular fighter.
I really try and avoid scoring rounds even, the only time i ever really do it is if both fighters fail to connect with any punches in that round, i will always look for a way to give it to one of them!
I have no problem with a round being even. If it's even, it's even, make it 10-10. Don't see why people try to avoid it.
You just have to ask whether you're scoring a round even because it was a close round that didn't favour the guy you like, or if it was actually even. As long as even rounds aren't a way of giving the benefit of the doubt, then I think it's ok. But if you're scoring more than three rounds even then you not being decisive. Just ask four questions: Who landed the cleaner punches? Whose aggression was more effective? Who blocked or avoided more punches? Who controlled the pace and tempo of the fight, as well as controlling the ring? Eventually you'll find a discrepancy that'll let you separate the two.
I think if you feel a round is even, score it even. Not sure why people are reluctant to score even rounds. I tend to give more even than most people do.
I never score an even round, I always try and pick a winner each round unless of course the round is so tight and both fighers are landing clean shots, that the only choice is to give 10/10. Saying that though I honestly don't know the last time I scored an even round.
I never saw that fight live. the version of the fight I watched had round 6 missing so I didn't bother scoring the fight, just watched it.
