Scoring even rounds?

I try not to. But sometimes you genuinely can't split them and an even round is fair. I may watch the round a couple more times, but if I can't split them then I happily give an even round.

 

Why not though, surely even rounds are just part and parcel of the system

 

You have to be decisive when judging but it is also up to the fighters to define each round. If they don't then they run the risk of a close round resulting in a possible draw or loss of that round.

 

If i think a round is even, i score it even.
Dont see the problem in that.

If all 10 or 12 rounds are even, i'd score them all even.

 

I agree with this. If a round is even then give it a 10-10. If there are 6 even rounds then give 6 10-10 rounds. It's a more accurate and fair way to score a fight.

I think judges are reluctant to give 10-10 rounds for fear that it reflects badly on them and their ability to do their job. But if you think a round is even, but try and look for the slightest edge toward one of the fighters, even though that edge isn't there, and score it 10-9 just for the sake of it, then you're denying the other fighter 1 point. That one point might make the difference between winning or losing the fight.

 

id much rather score a round i thought was even even rather than giving it to one fighter for the sake of not having even rounds and completly ruining my scorecard

There's nothing wrong with even rounds. Quite often a round is so close that the best thing to do is give it 10-10. It's a fairer way to judge and in my opinion results is far less dodgy decisions. The US aren't big on it but then again they aren't right on a lot of things.

If you never score even rounds how can you compare your cards with the official ones? You are scoring using one "system" and the judges are using another.

 

They should never be scored even. Often the commentators give the 1st round as even when both guys are feeling each other out but its rubbish. There has to be a way in which one fighter is better or worse than the other.

 

If a round is close enough so that you struggle to find a winner then you should score it even. Not scoring even rounds is the reason we so many ridiculous uneven cards in the US. If you're trying to find a reason to pick a winner then there's every chance one judge will chose one reason for giving it to fighter A and another will find a different reason to give it fighter B.

If it's close, score it even. Simple.

 

When I watch a fight I'm not paid to score it. Therefore, if a round is close and I can't really justify seperating them, I won't.

I find that doing what I do prevents me from being sucked into most post-fight "robbery" arguements as I can always see that if any of the rounds I scored even went this way or that then it would have given that particular score...

Perfect example. I scored the 1st Lewis vs Holyfield fight to Lewis by 2 points but had 2 even rounds. Therefore, although I had Lewis win it could have been a draw and I can also see how some might have scored it to Lewis by 4.

 

So how did you score Round 1 of Paul Williams verus Sergio Martinez?
