In Boxrec.com there are som odd scoring in two fights in south Africa. 1973 Bob Foster P15 Pierre Fourie scoring 103-99, 101-98, 103-95 1976 Victor Galindez KO15 Richie Kates scoring after 14 rds 101-90, 100-89, 100-89 Scoring in the Galindez-Kates fight is confirmed by referee Stanley Christodoulou in his book. Does anyone know how fights were scored in South Africa at that time?
I took a look into Chris Greyvenstein's excellent book on SA boxing. In the 1973 bout the writer had it "anybody's fight" at the end of the 12th and then notes Foster took over with a "cruel right hand punch" to the heart that wilted Fourie, at which point Foster took over in the final 3 rounds and made sure the fight was his. I can't find a score for the Galindez/ kates fight, but the book implies that Kates had an early lead that Galindez overtook well before the end.
Woller, that's a good question and one I don't have an answer to. To restate what I think you're asking, after 14 or 15 rounds of boxing, how did they get those mathematical totals?
