Just been watching some of the amateur fights in Chicago, some of the scoring is ****ing ridiculous! What are your thoughts, where there any real upsets due to bad scoring?
No. Not really. The scoring works the way it's worked since 1988 in the amateurs, with the computer system. It's not pro boxing; it's a whole different game.
So you dont think it has its flaws? I know the system is different! It just seems flawed to me, not all of the punches get scored, especially bodyshots.
No, I don't like the system the way it's in place now; which is why the AIBA is changing it. But it is what it is; it was designed to eliminate corrupt judging; although of course issues have still arisen.
Um, no; it's not. For the longest time a lot of the dominant countries in amateur boxing didn't even allow pro boxing. Even now Russia still produces a good amount of career amateurs. Going at it "like in the pros" is what allowed Roy Jones Jr to be robbed against Park Si Hun in Seoul.
The main problem that I have with the scoring system in amateur boxing is that it is based on points rather than rounds. A fighter could land 20 punches in the first two rounds and run for the rest of the fight and still win the match.
I was watching a few fights wear shots landed flush and no points were given and others where 2-3 points were added on for seemingly average punches that didnt land clean
