Just got the Frank-Stander bout on tape. One of the greatest contests I have ever witnessed.

    Frank also schooled Guy Casale.

Just had a bad night versus Holmes who thumbed him just as Scott was warming up to the task.

    Appreciate.

I really don't think Scott Frank was going to have anything BUT a "bad" night against Larry Holmes. He was a good fighter who had some decent wins, but terribly outmatched. Frank at his best was fringe level. Not the type of guy who should have been in there with the heavyweight champion of the world.

Just a bad night. I wish there had been a rematch clause.

Scotty gave Ranaldo Snipes O mighty hell and went into that fight with scant pro experience.
    Certainly his finest effort!

    True story:

I was at the Holyfield-Bert Cooper fight and had press credentials. When I was picking them up, Dan and Kathy Duva were having a light-hearted discussion about Bert Cooper and whether he was the worst or least credentialed heavyweight title challenger in recent memory.

I chimed in and said, "No, Scott Frank."

I got some mean looks and they didn't invite me to the post-fight press party. I didn't realize Frank was their guy -- think he even married into their family.

Scott Frank was not a good heavyweight. He was just a pug.

Eh...Frank was, in my estimation, among the bottom three of Holmes' much criticized roster of challengers in his WBC reign along with Jones & LeDoux. (arguably 2nd worst, though he probably at least deserves to rate higher than LeDoux no matter what)

Just an example of a glaringly padded record and the sort of flimflamming that has always marred the sport. Without the string pulling of Don King, there is no way a Scott Frank ought to have been anywhere near a ring with a world heavyweight champion.

Outpointing a 40 year old Wepner riding off into the sunset and pummeling a bloated and long since disinterested 36 year old Stander (like Wepner himself just about ready to hang them up) are nothing to write home about. Despite having names they were spoon-fed opposition as of when he fought them. Who in their prime - or even within a decade of it - and worth mentioning did he ever beat? Rocky "I went Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots With Bobby Halpern" Casale? Eh...

    Awkward!

Hey, you had no way of knowing - and they had no moral high ground if they were ****-talking Bert. :deal (whose credentials did vastly exceed Frank's...man, any version of Smokin' Bert would destroy him)

Awesome. All that was missing there was farting in the dressing room to complete the "awkward" circuit.

    Unless there's another story...........? :hey

Holmes could have trained on beer and hookers, and still won this fight with ease....

This was over 30 years ago so i don't remember how in the hell Frank got a title shot:roll:, lets be real, Frank was a ham an egger who had no business in the ring with Holmes..

Frank just happened to have his worst night when Holmes had his best.

    Where was the rematch?!

As I recall, Kathy Duva heard me and kind of nudged Dan with an elbow and said, "He said Scott Frank ..." and then I got the mean looks.

It's funny looking back: someone told me right after about their connection to Frank and I was like, "Oops."

But they pointedly did not invite me to the postfight party. Everyone in front of me was given a ticket to the party as they picked up their press pass and then they just didn't hand me one. I guess I was the guy who put a turd in their punchbowl, lol.
