I used to love watching this man fight down the years he was a great fighter who was on the edge of greatness for me. He was a great talent who ****ed it up because his head wasn't right. He could of been now coming to his peak as a boxer in the featherweight or Superfeatherweight class now and would of been in the top 10 p4p list. The fights he has missed out on because of time spent in jail or in rehab. If he was fully vocused people would be talking of Harrison the way they have talked about Hatton and Calzaghe. If he ever got his head right I would love to see him make a comeback to the ring he is only 31 so could have 3-5 years to give back to the sport which he took away. Its a shame for a fighter like him to go the way he went.
Booze is a poison man if u get hooked. It ruins life's.I can think of a good few sports stars who've ruined there lifes with drinking.George Best for one.Even look at Gazza as well he's gone right down hill.Mike Tyson was just whacked I think. Tyson Quote That equals to being a fool, having fame and no fortune. A lot of guys out there have fame doing this and doing that, but they are broke
He was a useful fighter no doubt, a solid top 5 featherweight at his peak, but calling him a potential great is a bit much. IMHO, he was never as talented as either Calzaghe or Hatton. He had good solid wins over come froward guys like McCullough and the Dominican chap he beat to win the title and head to head he was tough to match. However, guys with a bit of speed and movement who would give him angles gave him a real problem. He would probably have been a Scottish great, but IMHO had the mooted fights against Marquez/Guzman come off, he would have struggled. I don't think he could comeback with any success now either, the guy's a former alcoholic who has been in the slammer and has clear anger problems. He needs help not to get back into the ring.
I sacrifice so much of my life, can I at least get laid? I mean, I been robbed of most of my money, can I at least get a b--w job , without the people wanting to harass me and wanting to throw me in jail?" Mike Tyson
We can never tell how good he could of been as those years out of boxing he would of progressed on I think he was what 28 when he last boxed a young age and could of went far in the divison as you say drink ****ed him up. Still I think he could of been talked about how people have talked about Hatton and Calzaghe.
The comeback is a non-starter IMHO, he's talked about coming back at lightweight and a MASSIVE part of Harrisions game was being a huge, strong featherweight. He'd loose all that straight way at 135.
I don't think he was on his way to being a great but he certainly deserved the place in the top of the rankings he occupied after his last fight. The decline was, in my opinion, already starting to show when he lost to Medina and was saved by the judges against Polo so I don't think he would have done anything else with his career except make mandatory defences of the WBO.
I'm on the Zoloft to keep me from killing y'all." Mike Tyson Sure Scott Harrison got caught with some sort of anti depressents as well
I feel for Harrison, people say it's his own fault but I think the guy was mentally ill, What a story it would be if he did make a good comeback. Dont think he would ever be world class again, but then would that be enough for him?, having been at the top, its maybe best he doesnt make a come back, I would hate to see him get beat from a fighter he would have easily beaten in his prime.
the problem is that he wants to comeback but his problem is his legal trouble. BBBoC is adament about not having convicts fight but he cant fight unless he gets his spanish legal woes sorted out. untli that time all he can do is get into decent shape and not drink
Think once he gets out of jail (should be soon) he will get his licence back, dont think he has any other cases to answer.
Thats it exactly. Sure he went off the rails but he did it all in one big blast it looks like. Naturally getting into trouble in different countries can hang on you or can hang you, regarding time etc. When he cleared one case out and did his time for certain biffs, he was out training and he was, its all he knows and i guess it must of being frustrating doing all this and knowing, not only your demons were chasing you but others....eg foreign polisi and yes they had reason to be as am sure he would say too. Must be frustrating and at the same time, character building to some extent, however you judge anothers or your own character. Is the spanish jailtime the last one now ? I mean is that him up to date and clean slated when he gets out ? I reckon he will be back. Difference is, im not sure if i want him to be, nah ****it i do, am a selfish ****. Look where Arthur is, given his opponent and situation. Im sure Harrison would of laughed watching that. I dont mean that as a slight on Arthur at all. What i mean is, i reckon Harrison is sitting there thinking WTFFFFFF !!! He seemed quite honest in nature and record. Boxing wise, lets look at it this way, he aint Micheal Brodie. I mean no disrespect to Brodie. Harrison im sure knows best that its boxing or ****all. I know he was big for the weight, he was also game, durable and straight forward. I dont remember him being chinny.....whats to say he wont do this at a different weight. I do understand his body could be done, even if his mindset isnt. I bet he has learnt just as much not boxing as he would of, if he was boxing, this i mean, regarding himself, so time out of the ring may be even valuable.Eg. Mentally. If he comes back........its gonna be the talk of the boards and British boxing. I dont wanna sound pro-Scottish here regarding Harrison. I just followed him more than other fighters. Maybe it was the no thrills, gritty, quiet and no bull**** attitude. Anyways All the best to him in whatever he turns too.
Agreed Hairy, I'd love nothing more than him to make a great come back, I loved watching him, such a simple style but so effective.
The guy was a good fighter Strong and big for a featherweight But he showed in the fullness of time what a complete tosser he is Getting drunk and just stealing a car for the sake of it while in holiday in Tenerife , etc Just a idiot who can never achieve greatness forget about talent, etc only the really strong reliable consistent person attains greatness talent is just something you are born with - anyone can have that loads of people **** their talent away to the demons of drink and drugs and bad living, etc but greatness requires a strong character and determination to be able to have the courage and sacrafice and resolve to come through Its what sets Lennox Lewis apart from his generation of heavyweights
I do too, i remember the class of 2000 photoshoots, **** he had that stone cold look then, same as he does now. Same as he would down the chipshop. Wheres the class of 2000 now ? He has made it ( Froch ) and it took time, he speaks more than Harrison, that aint hard but Frochs a fine comparison regarding "hardness" They walk to the ring with a cold sweat.
