On Quiggs boxrec he is down to fight no 88 rated fighter Diego Oscar Silva. I'm really gutted at the announcement of this fight as the supposed main undercard fight to the Froch v Groves PPV. This is in no way a worthy world title fight, the guy is coming off a draw and is just being brought over as a punching bag to make Quigg look good. Fights like these will not benefit Quigg as a fighter too, he needs to be in with credible opponents to make him work. I thought at the very least he would be facing someone who has fought for a world title or someone who has been a shortly lived champion. With the suspension of Stephen Smith this undercard is looking a little bare considering it was going to be Matchrooms biggest show to date.
Little bare is kind, it's looking really poor, especially after Hearn's shite about an 'outrageous' PPV. Hope he is reading thee forums cos he's getting a lot of stick on boxrec forum, CHB, 606v2 etc. Really disappointing so far. Apparently Andy Lee might be on it, but will likely be a tune up against another can. Probably stream this one
Andy Lee would need to be fighting someone half decent I wonder if they have enough time to arrange for him to fight the guy he was meant to face on the Haye Fury bill. If I remember it was a guy Barker fought for the euro belt a few years ago so he would be facing a live body. I'm beginning to wonder if Hearn may have to use 'the worlds best prospect' Callum Smith to salvage the undercard as well. I'm also surprised Yafai hasn't been announced for another fight.
Lee was meant to fight Domenico Spada, the WBC #2, who could now be fighting Rubio for the interim belt
Bit silly of anyone to expect Quigg to be fighting a superstar given that he only fought six weeks ago. He'll likely come through this easily and head into a big fight early next year. The undercard really isn't as bad as people are making out, just not 'outrageous' as Eddie suggested it would be
Quigg vs Silva, 'mouthwatering (as Smtih would say) chief support? It's pretty shite mate, lets be honest
I know, fancy people being pissed off that a 'world champion' (ha!) isn't defending his 'title' against a worthy opponent. How dare an elite fighter face somebody decent within 6 weeks. It's not as if the greats of the 50's and 60's ever did that. It's ****ing wank. Name one good fight apart from Crolla vs Gethin. Purely names only, no good match ups.
I don't think anyone expected him to be fighting a Jonathan Romero but I expected him to face someone they can at least say was a world champ be it a paper belt or had fought for a world title. Sounds a bit more credible than announcing him as the WBO latino super bantanweight champion.
As someone mentioned, Quigg fought 6 weeks ago. This is PPV and a built fight, Quigg looking good will only raise his profile which suits both him and Hearn. 2014 though, big fights need to happen for Quigg.
At the end of the day, this fight is about Scott Quigg defending his world title in impressive fashion after his draw against Salinas, not about his opponent, with a view to landing a bigger, more testing fight early next year. The marketing will be an undercard world title defence, not Quigg against so and so who has fought for this, that or the other. As I said, Quigg only fought six weeks ago and it's not always straight forward to get people over at 6 weeks notice. That's the reality of the situation. I do think fans need to be more realistic in their expectations and have a better understanding of the business.
Yeah that's fair enough but if that's the case, put him well down the pecking order and state a 'tune-up' fight for much bigger things in 2014. Instead we will get shite on Ringside about this argie being a 'come-forward' loves a scrap, really unlucky to get a draw in his last fight 'much like our very own Scott Quigg' type shite. The guy is ranked 85th in the division by Boxrec, fought a debutant a few fights ago and has fought guys with losing records in his recent fights, and this is chief support for a 'mouth watering' 'outrageous' bill FFS. The main event needed a solid undercard as it is no more than a 6/10 not this utter shite. Look on here, CHB, 606v2, boxrec forum, people are slating it left, right and centre. No where near PPV worthy, yet mugs will still buy in and we will be left with more of this shite
