Seems like there might be a power struggle in Scottish amateur boxing with a new organisation ready to go against the current regime of Boxing Scotland. Not sure the total ins and outs of it but some clubs with decent pedigree are already looking at shifting over to the newly formed Alliance who are promising that they will be affiliated with IBA and have significant funding to go against Boxing Scotland as the #1 amateur organisation in Scotland. Some of the clubs I have been told are moving over and mentioned moving over so far are, Antonine, Glenrothes, Jonesys, Duries, O'neils, Hamilton, AAA, St Francis, Fair City, Cathedral, Logan, Wellmeadow, Brechin, Inverness City, Priestfield, Linktown, Broxburn, Doonhamers, Barrhead, Doon Valley and Newarthill. Its been a while since I was involved in the amateurs but I can't see much good coming from a split like this? I know something similar happened in London so has that worked out? Would this Alliance be ok to box in other countries in the UK? Not a fan of Boxing Scotland either... But is this a genuine solution?
Boxing Scotland is run by dinosaurs but I remember years ago Brad Welsh started his own outfit (Amateur Boxing Association Scotland) and it never quite took off, although from what you're saying thats a lot of clubs getting involved
Hence the reason I am no longer involved lol, I knew Brad very well and remember him trying to get this up and running when he teamed up with Sam Kynoch to try start a different organisation. IIRC only 1 club actually signed up for leaving so if nothing else this new Alliance is at least managing to get clubs onside. Is it the right thing for boxing in Scotland? I'm not sure but it couldn't be any worse
