Hello, following on from another thread that I was reading recently that discussed area titles, I had a look on boxrec and it got me thinking why are fights for the Scottish Area Title are so few and far between, some dating back to decades ago. Charlie King is down as the Scottish Lightweight Champion despite moving to Australia and fighting down there now! Seems that other titles such as Southern Area are fought for far more often. Does it come down to the promoters, number of active fighters in an area, the area board, or a combination of them all? Any ideas?
it might be down to simply the amount of active boxers who are eligible to fight for them mate, and the real talented scots at the top of the british ranking might see it as a step down or not worthy fighting for. although you asking this question, means in mackys world you dont know anything about boxing lol, but dont worry about him hes just a scruffy tramp. also how many promoters are there in scotland mate
No it doesn't as he stated he already knew how to find out who they were. His question was why aren't they more frequently competed for. Completely different question to yours.
I know off another forum ronnie clark (super feather) has struggled to get a fight for a scottish title or wen fighters hav agreed the board havnt approved his opponent. Some fighters won't take a risk at lower level titles their prepared to wait rather than take a 50-50 fight.
Yeah that's a fair point. What has really made me think about this is a lot of English fighters use their area titles as avenues to get a crack at the British title, but the same can't really be said for the Scottish Titles. Off the top of my head, the two big promoters who have been around the block are Tommy Gilmour and Alex Morrison. You've also got Alex Arthur who's put on a few shows in Edinburgh under AAA Promotions. Probably a few more putting on small hall shows around the country but my knowledge isn't vast enough to give you anymore names!
