is in its best shape for a long time IMO. Alex Arthur - World Champ Willie Limond - a contender Kenny Anderson - potential to go far, same with Ian Millarvie. Plenty of good, young boxers coming thru like - Jason Hastie, Gary Young and the best young fighter in Britain IMO Paul Appleby. What do you guys think?
Its looking good I have to agree. Dont forget Barry Morrison is gonna try and win back his lonsdale belt on Friday and return it to motherwell Come on Barry, do the Bizness
& dont forget Craig McEwan either, hes got star potential, & hes learning from the best over in the good 'ol US of A!
Forgot about Morrisons fight this week as well!! a lot of the Braveheart guys have been out to LA to train as well
jamie coyle, stevie mcguire are back to winning ways and newcomers like charlie king, paul burns are off to good starts. headin to liverpool for friday fight night, heres hoping the night is full of good banter and good sportsmanship, in and out of the ring good luck bizness :good
Like all those guys, really happy with the way Limond has got it together. Sick of hearing about Millarvie though to be honest, he went over to America about 2 years ago and still haven't seen him fight. Anyone know what is happening with him?
McEwan, Appleby and Kenny Anderson all look serious prospects . I first say Anderson at the Commonwealth games and he looked a real puncher, so far his pro career has proven that theory right . If he can stop Nathan King Scotland will really have something to think about . I think Appleby is up there with the best in Europe as far as Featherweights go at the moment, the European scene at Featherweight isn't very strong at the moment so I actually wouldn't hesitate about putting Appleby in a European title after a British title defence or two . Although if Monshipour's comeback is serious things may change a litte, if he still has what he did two years ago Monshipour would be a nightmare opponent for the young Scot . McEwan is coming along quietly under Goldenboy but looks very good . He could very well be the best of the lot and will not doubt get the right opportunities and match making under his current bosses . I'm surprised he doesn't get more attention here, especially as he wasn't exactly a bad amatuer either . Considering the likes of Simpson, Arthur, Ricky Burns Limond, Morrison, McIntyre, Anderson(unless he's though of retiring) and Steven McGuire are around too aswell as guys loike Jamie Coyle, Lee McAllister(*****) and Martin Watson too with prospects such as Jason Hastie things seem very strong for the Scots at the moment .
I think Appleby is an excellent prospect, but has glaring weaknesses that could do with being ironed out before a step up to European level - there is no rush with him anyway, he would be well served earning a Lonsdale belt outright against different kinds of opponents (boxers, brawlers, punchers etc). He has fought a good standard of opposition thus far, certainly better than most British fighters do in their first 10/12 fights - after a couple of British title defences I would have him fighting the odd Mexican journeyman across the pond to get experience. One reason why so many of our fighters fall short at the elite level is because they lack the experience of boxing on major cards - Ricky Hatton was on a fair few decent bills as a young kid, which I am sure helped him when he was headlining.
Do you want to know what I really think? Scottish boxing is never going to be great. Its a country that just dosent produce world class fighters like England and occassionaly Wales does. Ok - Jim Watt and Ken Buchanan were ok - if overrated - I mean Duran stopped Buchanen and Duran lost to Land and Lang was knocked the **** out twice by Colin Jones. Them list of guys you mentioned there are mediorce. Alex Arthur is at the top of that list - but he is not a world class fighter he is a paper champion. I can't comment on the other guys so much as I have so little intrest in Scotland because they have failed to produce a fighter that gets my intrests. Willie Limond is ok - British level fighter - thats about it
