Haven't produced many over the years, the only ones i can think of are. Gary Cornish ( rumours hes retired) Ian Millarvie ( Made a comeback a couple of years ago, nothing since) Ross Henderson ( Gave it up as he couldn't commit to the sport) Jay Carrigan-McFarlene ( Now a Cruiserweight ) Does anyone know of any others or any amateurs that could go pro?
It’s a shame that Scotland hasn’t produced any decent HWs. Despite the average height being relatively short, in football and in rugby Scotland has a fair few tall and broad centre backs and props who at least have the size to have a go. Imagine if Big Duncan Ferguson had decided to lace a pair of gloves instead of football.
Hard to produce proper big men up here. Seen a fair few big guys with talent in the gym, not enough though when bringing them all together for sparring. Ross Henderson struggled for development with a lack of big guys. Gary Cornish lives in the Highlands. An old coach once told me a lot of the big guys were spoilt too much in their homes. Also they never had to defend themselves from bullies etc as no one messed with them, which really meant they were not tested. Makes sense anyway.
There’s an amateur boxer.. think his name is Scott Forest.. Can’t remember if he’s 91 or 91+ He’s quite small and stocky, maybe would go cruiser if he turned over.
Small talent pool and boxing is not the number one sport. Most big lads go into rugby or practice other Highland sports, I know a couple have participated in world's strongest man over the years. Gregor Edmunds is one that springs to mind and the Stoltmans.
Scottish heavweight title has been vacant for 70 years! But its now being brought back from the dead on the taylor-caterall card
