TBH, I was in the exact same mindset as you are when he said he was not going to fight Pavlik. To me he seems as though he might redeem himself here.... Dawson - Tarver winner would be acceptable, but Pavlik is the higher rated fighter here, young etc. Tarver is ancient yet still decent, but that win is easily discredited.....And there are many on here who regard Dawson as a hypejob. Johnson beat him in all fairness. Pavlik is the bigger fight here. Props to alzaghe if he takes either fight. Screw him if he does not.
Calzaghe-Pavlik would be a great fight. Of course. The problem is that in order to really to a lot for Calzaghe it would have to be at MW, because Calzaghe has proven himself to the tilt at SMW. He is unproven at MW and at LHW. Even with wins over Roy and Hopkins he is very open for a lot of criticism at LHW, but the winner of Tarver-Dawson would put that to rest and give him great legacy at LHW. Alternatively Pavlik at MW could give him a great win at MW. However his plan to have the fight at SMW does not add much for Calzaghe - from Pavlik's point of view of ocurse it is preferable to meet at smw because if he can win he in one fight has hit jackpot and beaten the guy that must be called the best smw ever.
BB given your avatar I have had real cause to question your judgement on matters sporting, this statement doesn't do anything to alleviate that concern :hey :good
It's not my fault I am a Leeds fan! Have been since 1985 (year I was born) and proud to be one - though ashamed of our performances this century :rofl I should have worded the post better - easy W as opposed to easy fight. I think Pavlik is a very good fighter, but is rather one dimensional - with Joe having a decent beard I see him weathering a bit of an onslaught and boxing Pavlik's ears off. Edit - the post was just ****ing **** I know. Whatever, Joe would win 117-111 :deal
I'm not a Cal fan as such, but I agree with this :good Only kidding about Leeds , great place but **** team. Given where you are from I can certainly understand loyalty overriding judgement
Anywhere in Yorkshire is great - because it's in Yorkshire :deal If it ain't from Yorkshire it's shite :deal They are awful - apparently Jon Douglas is an 'enforcer'. Excuse me if I'm mistaken - but enforcers are the likes of Roy Keane, Paul Ince and David Batty. Douglas just strikes me as someone rather cynical - there is more to being an enforcer than wearing an armband and getting booked 15 times a season :rofl To be fair, our midfield is absolutely **** - hopefully Gary Mc can sort it out, either by buying a few top players or sticking his boots on again!
people, Dawson hasn't accomplished anything. Pavlik is undisputed middleweight champion of the world with 2 defences of his title already. Dawson vacated the WBC to fight a 40 year old Tarver
Everybody shits on the man for not fighting Kelly Pavlik then when he decides to keep his title and talks about the prospect of another fight at SMW, he takes even more pelters. It's a lose lose situation for Joe really. He's ducking Tarver, he's ducking Froch, he's ducking Dawson. The guy cannot win whoever he picks. I have to laugh at Tarver. **** me, Stallone was shaking him about a bit in sparring! That tells you something doesn't it. But he's a bigger threat than Pavlik? Unbelievable. He seems sensible enough to realize that his time at the top is coming to a end. In his last fight he didn't look as sharp and was not his usual self. Obviously this would have put doubt into his mind. The thing is, Hopkins makes anyone look bad and perhaps all Joe needs is a good solid performance against Roy Jones to get his spirits back up and get him mentally and physically prepared for one last major fight, against Pavlik in front of his home crowd at Cardiff. Get off this mans case. There's more hate for Calzaghe on here than what you'd have found for blacks in Mississippi during the 60's.
Dude, this thread was started by a man called, "Pride of Wales", who was brought up in Newbridge (Joe's birth place), South Wales, and he also has Joe as his avatar. Did you not see the tongue in his cheek and sarcasm.
Calzaghe wont fight Pavlik - its all hot air. He'll retire after slapping his way to a decision over another grandad.
I am Calzaghe's biggest critic- not because I think he is ****, but because I believe he never made the most of his talent, never chased the big fights, never went for the toughest challenges, to risk it all and prove himself. Even if he fights Pavlik it can't make up for 9 years of lazy defences from 97 til 06, he missed his time and there's nothing that can be done about that now, but at least he has finally took on a big name, a dangerous opponent, a 50/50 fight of the like he hasn't done before. Lacey was a good win and a great performance, Kessler a very good win and a great performance, Hopkins a decent win on account of a poor performance, but these 3 fights don't make a great career. At least he would finally be giving himself a chance for a career-defining challenge v Pavlik. If Joe takes it on, I salute him.
