Seansureee Moonsuree vs. Pedro General Taduran, Jr., 12 rounds @ minimumweight

 

Round 1

Moonsuree is stepping to his right and floating a high left jab out from his brow, following a clothesline to arrive just an inch out from Taduran's own brow, intercepted however by Taduran's right glove karate-chopped outward, pinky edge first. Things start out slow in the first minute but soon reach a boil, with Taduran hurling lefts over the top as he surges forward, and Moonsuree staying in a tight compact shell at mid-range, shuffling as needed laterally and letting his hands go with abrupt flurries, scoring with quick shots delivered to a variety of locations, most efficiently with a straight right on the bridge of the nose, but also with some body shots (although many of these roll of Taduran's shoulder as his awkward pressure keeps him always in range to bash down on the champ).

Round 2

Moonsuree is walloping Taduran across his right temple with a step-aside counter left hook as he comes in, but Taduran is proving impervious, hell of a chin on this kid, walking through some VICIOUS counter sequences by Moonsuree in order to get his licks in. Not much finesse by Taduran, but he is causing Moonsuree great discomfort and forcing him into a brawl. Taduran is zapped by a lead right in his teeth, caught with his mouth agape, stunned but rallies immediately with several hard lefts on the body coming in behind a pawing right jab. Moonsuree is axing down on him with hard rights arcing out from a tight guard, retracting to defensive position as soon as he throws. Moonsuree much more methodical but Taduran hanging right in there with him.

Round 3

Moonsuree is unable to fend Taduran off as the Filipino just mauls him with big pendulous body combos, walking him down, pressing chest to chest against him on the ropes. Moonsuree tries prying him off with uppercuts but Taduran not going anywhere. Taduran now able to time Moonsuree's counter 1-2, falling off to the side of it in a "breaking ball pitch" manner, and then chiseling his way into the body with some light right jabs before exploding with a left. Moonsuree is blatantly looking for a hold, and finally gets one after a few abortive attempts, running sorties in & out. Taduran is rocked by an overhand right but doesn't take a backward step, continuing to wail on Moonsuree's body.

Round 4

Moonsuree is starting to feel himself, getting fancy with some jabs scored coming straight inside and then quick sidesteps on the cross axis. Moonsuree in there moving like a queen in chess, able to generate offense from any distance and moving either perpendicular with or parallel to each set of ring-ropes. Taduran more like a cross between a pawn and knight, either taking one stomp to close the distance and then unload or suspending the upper half of his body in a low bow and then veering off to a side to get under Moonsuree's straighter punches before rounding on him with looping ones.

Round 5

Moonsuree is flipping jabs off the hip into Taduran's face and shushing him down pretty effectively. Taduran falls in with a high whipping right hook but is grabbed and stalled out. Moonsuree blocks several punches while shuffling backwards, picking off what he feels like and countering playfully with the jab. Moonsuree getting cheeky, hands carried low, dancing around to his right with a little swagger in his step. Lead rights by Moonsuree. Taduran is leaning forward and tossing some rat-a-tat body combos but not really getting anything clean above the hips of Moonsuree.

Round 6

Moonsuree is taking a round off, it seems, curling his left elbow around his waist and dipping his head low, just shuffling away from Taduran and throwing naught but a few "leave me alone" flurries, none intended to actually score or do any damage. Taduran seizes the opportunity to submarine in and rip some hard body shots. Taduran starts to pop up from his bowed position and dribble a few off the chin of Moonsuree, who looks a little surprised at this development. Moonsuree now sets himself and starts to dance around behind the jab as he did in the previous two rounds, but is forced to clinch as Taduran slams into him.

That's why I'm going back to watch this one, at @CST80's behest... despite closely following the Pinoy scene I'd previously never happened to have Taduran on my radar and upon seeing that Moonsuree (whom I don't rate as genuinely elite) had comfortably outpointed him, I just wrote him off. Now that he's IBF champ, he merits having a second look at.

 

Round 7

Getting wild in there, ref needing to get involved, asking them please to watch their butting heads (as well as low blows). Really degenerating into a dirty affair now, albeit mostly unintentional (just the byproduct of a southpaw and orthodox fighter each getting tired & sloppy). Moonsuree is slapping up top with a left hook after lying crouch and waiting to ambush. Pressure from Taduran not as intense now as in the sixth, but he is still putting in effort.

Round 8

Moonsuree is pestering with the jab, standing up tall in front of Taduran and then melting away, deftly pulling the rug out from under him when Taduran falls in with a right on the body thinking he is properly squared up. Taduran resorting to some left uppercuts coming in at low-altitude. Moonsuree avoiding them with quick jogs in reverse, but a few come near scraping his kneecaps on the way in. Ref having to separate them frequently, and warns Moonsuree for leading with his skull en route to a clinch. Taduran pops Moonsuree with that far-traveling left uppercut, and yes it lands a bit low, but the ref very hastily docks a point even though it was clearly unintentional (and not that severe, Moonsuree wasn't badly hurt by it) and there was no previous hard warning. yeah, garbage call.
