I have to say the second because I guess everyone will say Benvenuti is the GOAT Italian.

The run for the second best is good though, take a look at this:

    Bruno Arcari
    Salvatore Burruni
    Mario D'Agata
    Duilio Loi

Carnera was the HW champion of the world when there was only one belt... but I guess no one will pick him, right ??

Funny thing that italian-americans heavily outnumber actual italians as far as great boxers go... I mean, Italy has 60 million people !
Not the same happens in Mexico for example....

Well, I have Johnny Dundee as the best italian boxer of all times, record wise.

Rocky Marciano was the Greatest, he threw more hard punches than any heavyweights I've seen. Check him out with Archie Moore, 100-150 blows per round.

If we are only talking about those born on the peninsula, it may be Johnny Dundee. People shouldn't forget that Young Corbett III and Sammy Mandell qualify, as well.

I'm going with Bruno Arcari. He was 70-2-1 overall and 10-0 in world title fights. He also beat fighters like Bunny Grant and Harold Weston in non-title bouts. He went undefeated in his final 61 bouts over a 12 year period. Not bad at all.

You´re right as far as where he was born, he was born in Italy so he is italian... he is naturatlized as a american so by law he loses his italian nationality.
I guess he is american in the end though, and even if we consider him italian, which would be fair, was he better than Benevenuti though ?

Yeah, he is in the discussion. I think I would go with:

    Benvenuti
    Arcari
    Burruni
    Antuofermo

Again, Dundee is listed as an american fighter as far as Boxrec goes..... even if he was born in Italy (even though he was born in Sicily actually, which back then, you know, it was complicated, I doubt very much Dundee considered himself italian as I know for a fact being from italian ancestry myself on both sides that the southerners in those days did not understand this Italy thing, they were sicilians, calabrians, napolitani and so on.. not italians)

Of course guys like Pep, LaMotta, Giardello, Marciano don't qualify, they were as american as any american that ever lived. Otherwise this gets crazy, Eder Jofre was from french ancestry, Bonavena was from italian, Pascual Perez was from spanish... so you see where I'm going ?

Seems unfair that Duilio Loi is in the Hall of Fame and Bruno Arcari isn´t.
From what I read on italian websites Arcari does seem to be rated as the guy next to Benvenuti as the biggest italian 'pugile'.

I agree with you 100%. The IBHOF has a checkered history with non-American fighters but I do think it's getting better.
