with southpaws what you should do is when you go up to them take a quick step to the right diagonal forward you will be in range for a big right hand without standing on each others feet and then you can hook a bit and unload. you can also take a step to the left, it will tie them in a bit of a knot then you can jab jab straight right before they get a chance to get back close too you.

what kind of fighter are you? do you like to jab and move or hook and brawl?

Yeah, after watching the video (I read the thread earlier, but didn't reply) I thought about asking about Southpaws, but someone beat me to it.

With a southpaw I like to jab over the top of my opponents lead jab.

You will also find your right hand will land more squarely on their face, in my past couple of sparring sessions with southpaws.. I have found success with throwing a double right hand. I only did it once per session, but it was by far and large the most deciding punch both session.

You can sometimes get your left hook pretty easily around their lead hand aswell.

All of that aside.. you looked very sloopy and slow. All the help in the world about southpaws wouldn't help with movement like that.

So many posts referring to his technique... he lacks confidence to throw, of course it's going to look poor.

It's all about mindset. You go into anything not having 100% confidence in your yourself and your abilities drop drastically. Your lack of confidence will show, as it did here.

The next time you go to do sparring, believe that you're the best boxer in the world and the guy you're sparring is far below your level, literally tell yourself that before you walk into the gym, and believe it. Obviously you're not the best boxer in the world and the guy you're sparring may be of a far higher level, but doing this will put you in a more confident "winner" kind of mindset appose to the loser "Ouch. That hurt. I don't want to be here anymore" kind of mindset you had during your match.

I'm 6'2" tall; I was that height by 15 or so, and weighed 150, 155. So we are/were similar in build. You got nervous and that happens. In time and with experience you learn to channel and control those feelings.
You didn't need to exchange with that guy, and you didn't need to keep your left foot outside his and fire your right...You needed to use your advantages, keep your distance and just put your left hand on him. He had to come to you- every opponent will have to come to you. They can get the position with their feet, and you can still reach over them and from beyond their reach. Keep them at the end of the jab and straight right.
Learn how to grab and tie up in close; over time, develope a right uppercut and a left hook. Watch Bob Foster and Tommy Hearns and Little Red Lopez...Arguello and Sandy Saddler. These are all guys that had significant height advantages. See how they used them and steal from them.

That might be 90% of the problem then. Get some sparring with some southpaws if possible. If not, maybe ask your trainer to have sparring partners alternate playing southpaw vs orthodox

oi man dont worry happened to be but i got stopped, wouldnt of said i would beat the guy i faced, but was getting hit more than i should, 2nd fight as well. happens, gl with next fight.

ye difference between my fight and yours was i went gunho and headdown throwing wildly infact my defense went out the window my offense was there, won the first round and got stopped in the second round after being dropped twice ^^ so different performances. but both mistakes a novice would make.

not sure about the build either, the guy i fought in my 1st fight was a stockier muscular opponent, 2nd tall and leaner and better.
