Hi Neil, First thing to do is contact the Board of Control (02920 367000) and let them know you'd like to apply for your seconds' licence. They'll send you an application form and probably then summon you for an interview before your local area council and ask you a few basic questions (what corner equipment you need, etc - you can bone up on all this from the BBB of C's Rules & Regulations book - make sure you ask them for a copy before your interview). They'll then give you a date and a venue for the next available course (be prepared to travel if it isn't near you). The Seconds course is a little over half a day long and I think it costs around £50 (you also do the Board's First Aid course too as part of it), and also the licence fee (I can't remember what the fee is for a seconds' licence but I think it is around £60 - however that runs annually from May to May, so if you do the course in October you won't pay the full amount as you'll have May to September deducted). Keep us updated in how you get on with it. Best of luck mate, hope to see you in that corner soon. :good
No, shouldn't cost you anywhere near that amount for seconds licence at all mate. I came in it at less than £200 and that was for a full trainer's licence. Maybe whoever told you that was possibly mixed up with a boxer's licence, because by the time you splash out for the various medicals, scans, etc then yes, it's going to leave a nasty big hole in your wallet. But the figures I've given you are in the right ball park. I think they're running a course in early October (I believe it's going to be in Preston?), so get in touch with the Board quick and see if you can get on that one. :good
Things are going nicely cheers Jeff :good Totally re-structured Piper's training regime to incorporate many of the tips and exercises he picked up last week thanks to your good self and everybody else who has very kindly helped us. It's also opened his eyes a little to what the pro game is all about, as I've said he's only ever had amateur sparring previously. The good thing is that once he has these revelations, he learns from them and makes the necessary adjustments. You never really hit a brick wall with him which is great to work with. He's constantly developing and improving. Oh, and I've stopped him being so f___g nice! How's things your end? You started your course yet?
Best of luck with that. It'll keep you busy eh? Can't see me making it to Middlesborough this time around, but shall be giving my support in front of the box on Sky Sports. Hopefully Carl will get some air time (any confirmation?) Isn't Yassine fighting too in a couple of weeks?
