Some cruiser sized heavies could very well beat modern day heavyweight contenders. I don't see why that's so far fetched to believe. RJJ proved this when he beat Ruiz. Maybe RJJ wouldn't have beaten an ATG like Lennox Lewis, but he showed that the regular modern day contender could be taken.

Roy Jones wouldn`t beat any of the heavyweight champs around now and J.Ruiz would not have been a world champ either.

That's why I called him the average modern day contender

Except Jones is a once in a lifetime, athletic phenomenon who still struggled in spots against a middling heavyweight...

Lol Jones has his flaws and was inferior to many 180lbs fighters. He may have had dazzling speed and reflexes but there are other monsters in boxing history.

John wouldn't be considered anything special today. Some Cruiserweight guys would do well today. Jones is not one of them.
Marciano and Dempsey would both stop Wilder and Joshua imo, with both having a high punchers chance. David Haye knocks out Joshua, Wilder, Whyte and Ruiz.
They'd all lose to Fury tho, with Marciano having the best chance.

Ruiz was a very nice win for Roy at that time. But he was kind of hand picked. Roy was so much more skilled, and Ruiz didn't have the power to damage him. There was also talk at that time of Roy facing Vitali Klitschko. Although Roy was more skilled than Klitschko, I don't think anyone saw Roy winning that one.

But things like this can still happen. Usyk would be competitive against most heavyweights today.

John Ruiz was on a similar level to Andy Ruiz.

John had none of the power and explosiveness that Andy has.

He performed better than John did against a guy from that side of the Earth.

Whoa, I rank John Ruiz as one of the worst champions, I'd pick Andy as of now to beat him
