Seems Holyfield will only retire when he's carried out on a stretcher

Holyfield's blind faith probably doesn't help too much

I met him aswell, on his book tour right? he was real nice an I told my fave fight of all time was when he fought Qawi, great fight...
That said, it is sad seein him goin through the motion's, but I wish there was some sorta retirement plan or forced money management involved in boxing, because all the top guys always seem to end up with nothing bar a few exceptions...

Maybe Holyfield is an example of why we shouldn't overrate glamorous achievement. Yes, Holyfield has done amazing things in the ring that served his self - interest. He also failed miserably at responsibility with money, his ability to procreate and in recent years his health. There should be no reason not to criticize celebrities if teh **** up badly in important areas of life, just because they shine in others. Wouldn't you be ciritcal of someone who ****ed around all his life, fathering children without any though of the consequences for them and blows a fortune?

I understand your point. Nobody forces anyone to pay money to watch Evanders deluded quest to become an undisputed champion (or more likely: his attempt at making some money while trying). And Evander Holyfield doesn't owe us anything.

But looking from the outside, we are seeing a legend who was once just irresponsible with his money, as a result is now being irresponsible with his health, his reputation and frankly his sport. I am not angry at Evander, but just sad to see him like this.

His next opponent will luckily be less dangerous than Sherman Williams, as Brian Nielsen has been out of action for 8 years and has had knee surgery just to be able to train.

But I pray Evander Holyfield won't end up in the ring with any of the Top 10 heavies. That would be irresponsible not only by Evander Holyfield himself, but also all other parties involved in setting up such fight.

People get killed chasing money every day. Why do you feel empathy for boxers but not ordinary Joes?

How much money does a boxer actually see after Don King and mafia economics?

It's racism. They say the same stuff about Mc Hammer. Any time a nice black kid grows up into a rich black man and then loses it all because he helped one too many people, everyone calls the person a fool, an idiot, a sucker, etc.

What do you expect? These people didn't have college educations. They grew up never having anything and when they finally had something they tried to help the whole community.

So there you go. I just notice when a white boxer loses all his money nobody talks like this.

Holyfield does not need to fight for the money. People act like hes broke, he isnt. He lived lavishly for decades and now he just cant afford to pay the kind of bills to keep his 110 room house:

Im sure he'll be just fine living in a cramped 63 room house. I dont feel bad for this guy. His worst financial situation is better than anything most of us will see in our lifetimes. He could do commentary, write a book, do another tv show, appear in a movie. He doesnt need to fight.

Its sad to see the old warrior humiliate himself in this manner. This is a serious threat to his health. He is just broke and knows no other way of earning income.

I thought you said he's doing it to pay his bills, pay his debts.
What more is there to understand ?
Are YOU gonna pay them for him ?

He might still be broke. It's not easy to just sell a place like that. How many people could even afford it ?
So, if he's stuck with debts and no income he's got to try to do something.
He already did a book. How many people bought it ? Not many. And books don't earn much. He's hardly gonna become a well-paid movie star, and TV execs aren't gonna pay him much to do a show. Commentary slots aren't easy to come by either.
Sadly, fighting is probably the only way for him to get real ready cash, and I don't think he's earned much in the last few years.
I don't know his exact finances, and its not my business. But I'd never knock a man for trying to earn his bread to live, or pay off what he owes.

He bought a house with 110 rooms, that has a bowling alley, Olympic swimming pool, and is sitting on 235 acres. He has in my estimation 20 kids. no telling how many other cars, boats, etc. he bought.
