According to the Floyd fanatics, should Williams win, his MW title is not real... Of course, that's if you expect consistency from them.

 

both guys will be perfectly fine at 157. it's a perfect meeting point for a guy who just fought at 160 and someone who just fought at 157. it would only be a problem for me if someone was getting drained because of the catchweight. that isn't the case, so what's all the hubbub? they're fighting, aren't they?

The contracted weight was 158. Williams came in at 156 and Martinez at 157.5

I don't think Martinez will be drained or anything, ultimately the contracted weight probably won't mean ****, but I prefer title fights to be at the division's weight limit.

 

Martinez still beats Pwill's 6ft ass.

 

I don't think Martinez is gonna be drained. But this is kind of lame now that I think about it. I don't like Manny's catchweights, people havethe right to complain about them. But they are made mostly to not fight opponents that are so heavy.

However, Martinez is not really a huge dude it's not like he's a big middleweight either, he's fought mostly at jr middleweight. Williams ain't exactly getting in the ring with a guy bigger than himself AT ALL. Paul Williams has fought at middle more than Martinez...

Does seem like he's just doing it for the sake of draining Martinez. Because it doesn't make any sense to make it due to size issues.

Why would you make a catchweight with a guy who you already fought at certain weightclass, is not bigger than you, and is holding that weight class' title. And you've fought more times there and have made the weight just fine? Only one answer. Draining.

 

158 is fine as long as both side agrees but yes the mayweather groupies that seems vocal in the pac-cotto catchweight fight seems quiet on this one.

The catchweights are not even comparable. Williams is 6'3 and has fought at 160 like 10 times! He can make the weight just fine. Martinez has fought at middle like twice. Williams is very tall and has fluctuated between weight classes like these from the start. He has no problems making 160 and is not fighting a bigger guy.

Totally different stuff. It does seem lame.

 

well as long as we have the 2nd fight. williams was coming from a 154 fight while martinez at 160. would it be better if it was done at full middleweight limit but 158 seems a fair weight.
