Why not heap all those opportunities on the guy who whipped his ass! used to be back in the day if you blasted a guy you inherited his opportunities today boxing has gone commercial, like Pat Boone singing a cover version of a black song cause he's more palatable than the real shiit. that's what the Canelos' and Alvarez' represent, while real fighters toil, get robbed and are left out in the cold like luis Collazo. Its fitting that the brutal KO happened in Brooklyn of all places, it certainly does feel like justice.
Who the hell said Ortiz had any opportunities lined up? He would still have been 1-2 in his last three, 2-2-1 in his last five. Last night was the sort of meeting where the winner either way moves closer to getting back into big opportunities, not fast-tracked automatically. It represented a step in the right direction, not a magical door to headlining on HBO PPV.
Ortiz qould have gotten a title shot next. I still maintain that hes talented, its just that his head and chin are shot to ****
' if it were Ortiz who got the second rd KO, I bet Golden Boy would have immediately set up a Title shot for all kinds of cash: Canelo at 154 maybe a rematch with MAYWEATHER ALL KINDS OF **** BELIEVE IT!!!! those kinds of things would be on the table for discussion. Hey isn't Kahn 1-2 and looking like **** and GETTING A TITLE SHOT????
So what? That may have been the case no matter who stood in the opposite corner from him. It could have been Collazo or a tomato can with thirty losses; if their plan was to to gift Ortiz big paydays just for getting a W under his belt no matter what. What are the "all sorts of opportunities" were on the table for Ortiz that should now be "heaped on" Collazo? What point exactly are you attempting to make? That because he beat Ortiz, Collazo should be signed by Golden Boy? Guess what? He already was. Collazo has been with GBP since 2011.
If he won...he may have gotten a Floyd rematch. Think about it. Their first fight sold well...and Floyd still hasn't announced an opponent.
So because Ortiz based on his past name value and reputation for being a TV-friendly commodity may have commanded a major but undeserved break for doing nothing but defeating Collazo, then Collazo himself - lacking that name value - should get the same undeserved breaks for doing nothing more than defeating Ortiz? :huh This is the logic at play here? :blood
read the post dammit my point is Golden Bot has a tendency to overhype certain fighers they feel are marketable while other exciting equally talented cats are left out and its bad for the fighters and boxing
Sure they do, but in this case it was Collazo with the WBA International title and ranking (Ortiz not being ranked with the inactivity) which means he actually had more tangible opportunities to lose than Ortiz did. GBP don't control the universe. Had Ortiz beaten him and taken his belt and ranking, then GBP would have an excuse to hand stuff to him on a silver platter if that is what they still want to do with him (after seeing their investment go bust so many times already). Ortiz brought nothing to the table for Collazo to now "get", just a W on his resume over a guy with two years away from the sport and coming off two losses.
if ortiz won he'd have been another W away from the title shot GBP would have pushed it even if he doesnt deserve ****
Well seeing as it was Collazo's WBA Int'l title and top five ranking (#3 to be exact) up for grabs, that would've meant a Maidana rematch, which hardly could have been called a favor to Ortiz. He would be KTFO easily.
...and who knows? We may just get Maidana vs. Collazo before all is said and done. There are only two guys ahead of him (Malignaggi and interim champ Thurman) and Maidana has already been in talks with both of them only to have nothing come about for various reasons in the past couple of years. Both GBP, easy to make.
cant throw ortiz to maidana right away, even if he won maidana will be (and would have been, had ortiz won) tied up with broner/mayweather he would have had to fight paulie, thurman, broner, judah (likely paulie or judah) and then possibly a big-money maidana re-match
In all fairness, in 2014, Collazo for winning doesn't deserve whatever "opportunities" that Ortiz would have gotten for winning had he have. You don't immediately, by law, take the spot of the one you beat. That doesn't factor in the business aspect at all.
