hatton wasn't badly hurt by lazcano at all, he took a few shots and came back, pretty much winning every round. and lazcano although maybe past his best has still been in and done well against a few top fighters. hatton battered him.
the only one i think doesn't deserve a spot there is Calderon. He is too weak for his weightclass, and struggled with Cazares. People will say like Cazares is much bigger but at the end of the day Cazares is a 108lb fighter, and so is Calderon. Apart from that maybe Rafa should drop out. I think he is very beatable after the Vasquez trilogy but actually that remains to be seen. So all in all good list. IMO you could take out Calderon and Rafa Marquez and throw in Kessler and Vitali Klitschko (who although is not very accomplished due to inactivity, is clearly a damn good fighter and head and shoulders above the other heavyweights.)
Great answer and great post. But to address this part... I believe that it all has to do with the marketability of a fighter. Today, for the casual boxing fan, Cotto is a bigger name than PW. Also the fact that PW is fighting on 3 weight divisions it's hard to keep track on how he is doing at each one from the casual fan perspective. Don't get me wrong, if PW gets belts on 3 divisions at the same time and defend each of them... We would be looking at something REALLY special here.
I can't believe that someone with 16K+ post will say something like this about Calderon. You really have to appreciate what this little guy has accomplished so far. The only reason why people think like you is because he is not a puncher, but by today's standard, he IS the best PURE boxer in the business and we all have to acknowledge and appreciate his skill.
Has Dawson gone up in weight and won fights like Williams has? Isn't that the theory behind P4P? P4P might be the stupidest thing in Boxing and I think the DLH/Pac fight will prove this especially if Pac loses.
being a puncher is part of being a complete fighter. Calderon can be the best pure boxer in the business (i disagree but thats not the point) but if he is losing to fighters from his own weight class then they are still better then he is. Calderon hasn't been losing but he has almost lost to fighters who are not at all on the elite level. Therefore its hard for me to consider that he is one of the 10 best fighters in the sport. That being said, I respect his defensive skills, but his overall ability is seriously lacking. And he has not tested himself against quality opposition.
Man, Calderon is undefeated what are you talking about :huh. You tell me about a fighter in history that hasn't won some fights on split decisions or close. At least we can say that Calderon hasn't received any fight he doesn't deserve (as far as I know). I disagree with you as far as his oposition. The guy has fought anyone he has been able too. I would love to see him clean the 108lbs division before he retires.
