It took serious balls to get in the ring with Kovalev. Before he succumbed to the bottle Sergey was a vicious fighter. The most vicious of his era and probably the top LHW of the past 20 years. And Kovalev was highly skilled. His only weakness was his tank wasnt the greatest. Can you imagine GGG taking on a guy like that?
Usyk calzaghe and donaire with ward a close 4th maybe if he didn't retire and did few more fights he's definitely be 3 As much as love ggg his resume is a little slim and cotto was never anything special in my eyes
Sorry when did Lil G fight Kovalev and please don’t give me BS sparring stories because that does not sit well.
Cotto was never anything much? Boy so much crap spouted on this forum. Ward is clearly number 1 based on accomplishments and level of competition he beat. Ward took the soul of many fighters.
I feel Ward and Usyk are the top 2 guys here. But Usyk isnt yet retired. I feel like Gassiev and Briedis are very comparable to Kessler and Froch. Usyk also easily outboxed AJ. And Ward struggled badly with Kovalev. Although Kovalev is a better p4p than AJ. We will see if Usyk can beat AJ in the rematch and if he can beat AJ again and give Fury a good tough fight he should surpass Ward IMO.
So what I could say Usyk looked **** against Chisora. There is no point evaluating Usyk yet until his career is over and you can look at everything in the round.
Usyk solidly beat Chisora. Most media and ringside observers had Kovalev beating Ward. 73% of media cards had Kovalev beating Ward. I think Ward and Usyk are the top fighters among those listed. You cant go wrong with choosing either man as the best fighter of the bunch.
I am not saying he did not win or there was any dispute rather I said his performance was **** which it was by his standards. We need to see how Usyk does in the AJ rematch and against the other top heavyweights to evaluate him properly. What we can say right now is he is probably the 2nd greatest Cruiserweight in history. As for Ward there was no puzzle he could not overcome. What the press think is irrelevant because the judges have it to Ward unanimously like I did and yes it was close but in the immediate rematch Ward closed the show and made Kovalev quit.
That’s true. Some of his fights were ugly. But he was extremely talented, and Joe can’t rank higher than him either on resume or accomplishments. Joe would never have taken on the challenge of a prime Kovalev. Both Joe and Andre were both great fighters. Neither can be ranked head and shoulders above the other, and especially not Joe.
