In a previous post you put: "i have a question for you say i get into a

with a guy who doesnt know how to fight would i win then or have a better chance at winning."

If you're getting into fights with guys who don't know how to fight - to me - it sounds like you've looked for the fight. Maybe I read that wrong, but that's how I read it.

Thing is, if you start boxing, there's a chance MORE people will try it on - as you're a bigger scalp if you have training.

Actually you can win a fight using purely your Jab-Cross. That's enough in an Arsenal to defeat an opponent. You can control a fight JUST with your jab. But this sort of stuff takes time, it just makes it a lot easier if you have a gym and trainer. Self training will only build strength and form and NOTHING ELSE. Probably you will throw a 'jab' not knowing the other 99% science behind the punches' success. If you're on your own, you're on your own.

Self training from learning videos is tantamount to watching saving private ryan, and then thinking you can be a soldier in a war. Please do not get the wrong idea.... I'd have no other constructive advice to offer other than this, because its truth.

You sound a little frustrated with the why you look,,,being able to beat another person up will not change the way you look,,,if i was you i would change my appearance first ,then you mightn't stop being picked on,,YOU can teach yourself at home some of the BASICs,,don't go for speed or power ,try to throw the punch's correctly first ,,try to get a friend to want to learn as-well this will help to learn attacker & defense moves

Reading your questions I'm thinking your over weight ,,seriously buy yourself a skipping rope (jump rope) & change your diet with a weight lose target in mind within 3 months & if you can reach your target your confidence will be sky high this will then make other people see you in a different why

If you still want to learn how to fight then learn mma its an easer & safer why to take someone down ,,,then go & kick the bully's ass

It sounds like your short on a bit of confidence mate. I rarely post on here because its just usually the same old internet warrior crap that bores me.

Now the question about self training, it all depends on how you are training, maybe you could post an example of your routine?

Whatever it is it may make you stronger and fitter, which in itself is an advantage in any walk of life but fighting on the street is for mugs, nobody really wins.

Going to a boxing gym will do what it is supposed to do, teach you how to box, which is nothing like scrapping on the street.

All that aside i really don't see why people fight each other on the street and have found it usually involves silly amounts of alcohol where peoples insecurities show and the people with chips on the shoulder get ratty.

I have boxed from an early age but haven't fought in a competition since i was 20 years old (four years ago). I don't feel like i have anything to prove to anyone but granted some times it cannot be helped.

For example, Saturday night just gone where a guy thinks its acceptable to knock his girlfriend about in the carpark in full view of everyone and tries to fight with the people who try to get him home without getting arrested or his wife in an ambulance.

Long story short, go to a boxing gym if you want to box. Avoid fighting in the street best you can.

so by reading this you can magicaly see what i look like.
ok im not frustrated by the way i look nor will i change it i'm happy who i am. I want to learn to defend my self much like alot of people in this world.

I weigh 200 pounds and lift weights. im glad i weigh 200 instead of 130 pounds. My cofidence isnt low. I'm one of the strongest kids in my grade.
so every thing you said about me was wrong.
Also I THINK I UNDERSTAND THAT I NEED TO GO TO A GYM OR SCHOOL TO LEARN HOW TO DEFEND MY SELF ADEQUATELY OKAY.
i'm actualy talking to my mom to see if we can afford a martial arts school near me that teaches practical self-defense.

I had self training before. Knew my footwork and how to throw punches decent. Still I signed up to the gym after a while because I wanted that interaction. You learn more and get corrected when done wrong.

Well I'm glad your gonna get into martial arts cause boxing is a sport, not self defence. I've been boxing for about 5 years. Still managed to get beat up after school last week. Two against one, and one of them was fat so I had no chance. A real street fight is nothing like a boxing match. You aren't trained to defend yourself from kicks or from someone with a weapon or anything like that.

Best self defence of all is just don't be a twat and give people a reason to beat you up.

Getting to a gym is the priority for getting good at boxing, and while it's limited, I have to disagree that it's not going to help you in the street. Unless you're just starting out and lack talent, or your opponent is himself trained in some sort of art, boxing is plenty effective enough at ending a fight quickly. It's not ideal, avoid confrontation at all costs, but if necessary, it is useful.
