Benny Leonard and Young Griffo if at lightweight really could outpoint him but of course pain is always a factor because leonard could really hurt a guy too and that slows guys up but in pure boxing terms there are some guys simply faster and more skilled like the two above and there is Pep and ray Leonard and of course Ray Robinson could beat him any way he wanted to and there are others.
Anyone who thinks Shane Mosley has a chance of ever outboxing Floyd Mayweather is a complete idiot. Anyone who thinks Shane Mosley almost knocked out Floyd Mayweather is also a complete idiot. Mosley got backed down on that round. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Why lol at Laguna. I suggest you try watching him Kev. https://youtu.be/kWbKCzKr6Ao Laguna was a masterful boxing technician. Great movement from his feet to upper body to head. His movement really was brilliant. On top of that he was very fast and skilled. A great couter puncher with a superb Jab. Laguna was seriously tough. He possessed a granite jaw. Never ko'd in 60 plus fights. Laguna would give Floyd all kinds of trouble. The fact you just lol'd at Laguna suggests to me you've not watched him in his prime if at all.
Kev, Laguna was past prime vs Buchanan. Not shot but not as good as he once was. Laguna is absolutely a master technician. He's considered a great fighter ability wise but his resume fell short of great wins to consider him a great. Floyd would have a lot of difficulty countering Laguna as he was far from a stationery target, and as for making him miss- Laguna had lots of speed and skill. He was a fantastic boxer and tough as nails. Ismael Laguna is no Lol'n matter for Floyd. Laguna would absolutely give Sweet Pea problems.
Laguna was a legend in Panama prior to Duran. I've never seen his fights, but I do know he was well past prime when he lost twice to Buchanan.
Re: Laguna: It's a typical old-timers v. young 'uns conflict across boxing, nay sports, forums. Some younger guys won't ever acknowledge that old-time athletes were any good, because "athletes always get bigger and faster, etc.," and some older guys will never acknowledge that the younger athletes are any good, because "old times were always better." I tend to try to walk a middle road, but I think there is a greater tendency of the younger guys to discount older fighters than the vice versa. The big difference is that the older guys have at least seen the fighters they criticize - whereas the younger guys have barely even heard of the older fighters they are talking about.
Let me be clear: I do not consider Laguna to be a laughing matter or a joke of an opponent. But the idea that he "outboxes" Mayweather made me laugh. Anything you can say about his technical skills and mastery applies even more so to Mayweather. That being said, I'll check out some of his other fights some time to confirm my modern biases.
I spoke of skills and smarts, not size or speed. I suspect that many of the old timers who write most dismissively of the new fighters have rarely seen them. Worse yet, several of them lie about it to mask their ignorance. But that's for another thread.
