None of them should be favored over Oleksandr Usyk and Mike Tyson. In multiple tries, Jack Johnson might be able to pick up a decision win over Oleksandr Usyk somewhere along the line. James J. Jeffries has the best chance of completing that task against Mike Tyson.
Well, take Usyk and Tyson back to 1900 and Jeffries and Johnson could beat them. Because of the gloves and rules Usyk never had to grapple like they did back then and if Tyson can't get Johnson outta there early he'd be in for some sustained damage.
Only Jack Johnson rates any chance imo - however much chance that is. Johnson’s style was more than enough to prevail over his contemporaries, what more need he have done? - However, he would have to modify that style against the likes of Tyson and Usyk. I think he could do that for much greater effect - such were his natural abilities - but it requires some extensive extrapolation.
A young Sam Langford I guess? Or Jack Johnson? I don’t really think either is going to pull it off, but if anyone is, it’s one of those two.
The 1900's fighters would have a much better chance against the overrated Usyk than Mike Tyson. Though I'd still favor Usyk against most of them. If Jack Johnson was allowed to fight under that era's rules and for twenty-five rounds , perhaps he'd beat Usyk. There's no way he'd survive prime Mike Tyson . BUT Neither would Usyk TBH.
All Bob needs is one punch and he would have both Tyson and Usky looking up at the stars. That is my pick.
Matching fighters from 125 years ago with ones who came 70+ years later is simply impractical in nature. You’re literally looking at two different sports. The rules were too dissimilar as well as everything else, I.e the equipment they used, the styles, the way they trained, etc etc. about ten years ago I brought this up to Seamus and he said well it’s still about two guys hitting each other and I said well at that point you might as well just call it a street fight and not a boxing match.
