No but truth be told, they probably weren’t much worse than the likes of the inept oaf Carnera.

Which Lewis are we talking about here? Early 90’s or early 00’s? Two different fighters.

Joe Louis is my pick. Jack Dempsey would have a shot in a best of 3 series. Jack Johnson and Max Baer would have chances in a best of 7.

Carnera wasn't an inept oaf. He became world heavyweight champion in an era with only 1 champion. He was the best heavyweight in the world at one time.

I know the style of fighter that Lewis excelled against he seemed to fight that type of fighter quite a lot. I should have refrained my reply and said if we’re using Golota and Ruddock as examples then it must be version of Willard post Dempsey that he fights.

I feel the likes of Dempsey or Marciano pressuring Lewis is disastrous because of the size difference, they’re walking into the firing zone of a man who’s like 50lbs heavier who can catch you with devastating uppercuts coming in, and when they’re right up close, they can’t do anything with Lewis, because he could just grab hold of them and they can’t go anywhere, it’s Lewis controlling the clinches because he’s much stronger.

If Dempsey could catch Lewis with a good shot, he could hypothetically win.

Yes, but I feel with the distance he’d be swinging from given the height difference, Lewis would be able to see it coming because of the distance it’d have to travel from and also with Dempsey’s wild technique, would allow Lewis to ride the punch.
Someone like Louis has a better chance because of his precise technique with no telegraph and he can sneak into range subtly and can set people up and deliver punches they don’t see coming, and he’s more patient which could give him a chance to make Lewis switch off.
Keep it low volume, have a look, make Lewis comfortable and set something up and sneak it in when Lewis misjudges the distance or timing.
Whereas Dempsey will be doing the same thing with the same tempo and Lewis will predict it and stay switched on, it’s the lower volume of Louis which could make Lewis switch off, which is what I feel they’d have to do to win, make him switch off, because Lewis, when switched on, used his advantages masterfully.
