Dempsey never fought a southpaw, not even a southpaw bum, you can be as good a fighter as he want, but if you can't deal with that stance, it can make all the difference

Dempsey Afraid? He Says Yes; Ex-Champion Twice Refused to Fight Sam Langford But Former Boxer Denies He Avoided Bout With Wills

There you have it. Add Langford, past his prime to the list of Wills and Greb to the fighters Dempsey avoided. While I would not add Jeannette to the list, Dempsey had a chance to fight him as a sub in for his initial opponent. Jeannette was in the ring ready to go.

I'd take Gene Tunney. While Dempsey wasn't at his best for Tunney, he wasn't exactly that far gone either.

Ages for the 2nd fight. Dempsey 32, Tunney 30.

Tunney beat Dempsey easily, and badly. He could weigh in at 175, and hydrate to 185.

Dempsey would send Qawi's head to the ****ing moon IMO. But it might be fun while it lasted. I think what you need to outhit Dempsey is real guile. Other than that it's feet.

What about the great LHW jabbers? Johnson probably doesn't quite have the reach to get it done.

If he can land those hooks up close and make space for himself definitely.

But there's also a school of thought that Qawi is physically strong enough to back him up and bully him to the ropes.

    Would be fun to watch.

I'm not the biggest fan of Harold Johnson.

    This was ban-worthy around 2008.

Sorry I misread your post, my apologies.
ps Wills was 25 when he first tangled with Langford.

Best vs best, I think Dempsey gets Moorer out of there quickly. Just a bad style matchup for Moorer. He was a slow starter that was not afraid to brawl. Bad idea with a puncher like Dempsey.

I didn't wanna out this so publicly, but he's my pick for the most over rated LHW in history.

Hmm, wouldn't even make my top 3. Moorer, Conteh and Tunney would be my go-to for overrated 175lbers.
