Send in who you think would have the best chance of beating these guys - ever. You only get one choice so make it good! The guys below will be at their absolute peak e.g. quite a few notables think Liston had clocked off somewhat by the time Clay came around. Guys like Frazier, Foreman, Vitali and Wilder have been left out for obvious reasons.

    The Heavyweights

    Jack Dempsey
    Joe Louis
    Rocky Marciano
    Sonny Liston
    Muhammad Ali
    Larry Holmes
    Mike Tyson
    Evander Holyfield
    Riddick Bowe
    Lennox Lewis
    Wladimir
    Anthony Joshua
    Tyson Fury

Just to get people rolling!!! Feel free to expand, i will keep mine short for now to get it happening.

    The Heavyweights

    Jack Dempsey - Mike Tyson
    Joe Louis - Muhammad Ali
    Rocky Marciano - George Foreman
Sonny Liston - Muhammad Ali (I think experienced Ali pre exile gets it done no matter what)
Muhammad Ali - Joe Frazier (I think peak ali wins but Frazier might be the best chance)
    Larry Holmes - Mike Tyson
    Mike Tyson - George Foreman
    Evander Holyfield - Muhammad Ali
    Riddick Bowe - Lennox Lewis
    Lennox Lewis - Muhammad Ali
    Wladimir - Lennox Lewis
Anothony Joshua - Lennox Lewis (Ali would be fine too)
Tyson Fury - Muhammad Ali (Lewis would be fine too in a reversal of the above)

Wow! Small world you live in Mark (wink). By the way, are the Tyson fights fought in a ring the size of an elevator?

    Hiya JT,

    My picks:

    Jack Dempsey - Ali
    Joe Louis - Ali
    Rocky Marciano - Foreman
    Sonny Liston - Ali
    Muhammad Ali - Wlad
    Larry Holmes - Frazier
    Mike Tyson - Ali
    Evander Holyfield - Holmes
    Riddick Bowe - Vitali
    Lennox Lewis - Ali
    Wladimir - Lewis
    Anothony Joshua - Lewis
    Tyson Fury - Ali

Picking opponents for Holyfield, and Lewis was hard, since they're so complete and versatile. Fury and Joshua are difficult, since they have unknown weaknesses, and are so big.

    Jack Dempsey - L Lewis
    Joe Louis - T Fury
    Rocky Marciano - Foreman
    Sonny Liston - Ali
    Muhammad Ali - Wilder
    Larry Holmes - Tyson
    Mike Tyson - Holyfield/Ali

I know the Wilder - Ali thing is sacrilegious but styles make fights and that's not a troll pick.

Thanks for the reply Saad. Emanuel Steward and ex great posters Springs Toldeo, MM and a few others (from memory) have always maintained this about Liston. How much credence is in it is up the the individual but it's an interesting concept.

Nice list but i am intrigued by Tyson to beat Holyfield, to single one out. I'd be worried that even the older Holyfield (i'd possibly even pick that version) would still be able to pace the bout how he did (holding, mauling, stopping Tyson in his tracks etc). Tyson's best punches left him unfazed.

Not to nitpick tho it just pipped my curiosity.

A blast from the past!!! Good too see you mate. Another super list but i'd expect nothing less. Lewis and Holyfield are indeed difficult to choose against. I think you've done well tho.

Cheers for the list. With the Ali thing why not throw one out form left field. It's not as if one can take anyone with any great degree of confidence.
