Joe Louis definitely out-punches him up close more often than not. Just plain better on the inside, hits just as hard if not harder, and is faster.

 

Without any defense or head movement an blocking any shots allowed, Louis lacks the chin to slug it out with Liston. It would take a Tyson or Tua at their best to do it.

 

Is Sonny allowed to move?

Because if not, it’s a draw.

Bell rings, both are in their corners. Neither is allowed to move out of the corner. Sonny has a long reach but he’s not going to be able to hit a guy in the opposite corner.

This stipulation is about the most ridiculous I’ve ever seen, but that’s because I’ve never seen one that requires one guy to be blind or have his legs chopped off or one guy gets to bring a baseball bat.

 

Holyfield would keep coming like in the Tyson fight and his speed of foot, handspeed, stamina and timing would be the difference

Yep. He's always my go-to for these types of fights.

A dark horse pick for this would be Fabio Wardley. He's got the big power, real fast, good stamina, warrior heart, etc. A toe to toe slugfest would always make him look good. A true boxing match is where he looks bad (like against Huni)

Physically, Dubois would be a great choice. I might have some worry about mentality and intangibles, but physically, Dubois is a beast.

 

Liston would pulverize Dubois.

 

A HW with big one punch power has chance Shavers or weaver ?? Bruno ? Marcardo ?? Hide ? Land the big one early or it's good night

 

Holyfield did as much clinching and bullying in the clinches as punching. It was an integral part of winning. He highly doubt he would have beaten Tyson if clinching wasn't allowed, even that post prison version.

I'm assuming Liston just fights as normal and the opponent has to come forward and dukes it out, which would exclude clinching. Tyson does this anyway, he can't fight any other way. He'd have a chance of winning tho i narrowly favor Sonny to out skill him enough to win.

The trouble with the thread is that Sonny didn't overly slug, he was a boxer-puncher who could back off and cool for a minute if he had to. Via everyone moving forward at him i don't see many that could prevail. Louis is a decent shout.
