Wherever they’re at, including in prime, some fighters can come apart somewhat after their first KO loss.

See John Tate who exhibited a similarly scary, utter and complete short circuiting when KO’d…first by Weaver, and then by Berbick 3 months after that…

But….if Dempsey connected with the same combo that put Tunney down in the rematch……it might well have led to the longest count in boxing history to allow Roy sufficient time to arise before the ref tolled “10”.

As to Dempsey’s prime - yes, we got a snapshot of same against Willard.

And, in particular, I mean Demspey’s work until the first KD (the balance of the round was a virtual mugging of a defenceless man) and Jack’s performance in rounds 2 and 3, all be he a bit flagged from his first round efforts and Willard impaired but somehow a bit more viable than he was throughout most of round 1.

Against Willard, Dempsey’s shots looked hard, fast, accurate and underscored by excellent mobility and sound technique.

Film would be preferable but it’s not hard to imagine running up the string of KOs that he did during his tear to a title shot.

Though not at his absolute best, Dempsey still looked very good in several of his early title defences also.

Jones might have his moments but I would be betting on JD to catch up via a chilling KO mid to 3/4 of the way through.

Otherwise, I think Qawi would provide for a great and fun fight.

I see that as a tougher match with JD warring with Dwight from first bell but ultimately putting the Buzz Saw out.

    Ezzard Charles
    Archie Moore
    Michael Spinks
    RJJ

And call me crazy but Michael Moorer would've been interesting, he was a huge Light Heavyweight probably weighing in way above the limit come fight night. And hes a Southpaw how many Southpaws did Dempsey fight ?

Really ? Dempsey has stated he was scared of 5'6 Sam Langford who started his career as a Lightweight, and said he didn't think he would be able to beat him.

Yet you think Dempsey would be confident against a fighter who looked unbeatable for a decade and barely lost a round during this period ?

Dunno, FRANK, he got FLATTENED 2 times in a row by 2 good, not great, fighters. I would say he was pretty damn past it, unless of course, he wasn't that great in the 1st place perhaps, lol?

Charles, Spinks, RJJ, perhaps Conn based on durability.

I do not think Moore does.

Why not Moore? Moore was crafty and could punch.

Yeah i think Dempsey struggles with Moorer, even if he eventually does KO him. And he has to KO him because he isn't outboxing Moorer.

I think Moore may be a little too patient. He didn't clinch much. While Moore is setting his stuff up, Dempsey is already scoring just by being ferocious.

My man the Buzzsaw would chew him up, it would be a replay of the second Saad fight.
