Bowe only went that route when he knew he could overpower his opposition, i.e. the Holyfield fights

Louis's chin was excellent prior to Schmeling I. Afterwards, it was still solid. His defense was also words better than Bowe's.

Couldn’t murder a worse fighter in Holyfield. I wouldn’t bet on it.

What ?!? o_O Did you really say Holyfield is a worse fighter than Marciano ? :duh:duh:duh:fusmile
Holyfield pisses all over Marciano, he's superior in every possible way, better by a country mile.

What's the difference between a country mile and city mile?

It's simply an expression to describe how big a gap is. A country is bigger than a city, hence the gap is bigger. :p

Doggone it! 205 is city pounds. Converted to country pounds it’s clearly < 200 lbs.

Better question is let’s send 6’ 5” Riddick Bowe to be born into an era when sub 200lb men were the best bigger boxers and let’s see how he looks without modern training and advances in nutrition..

Joe Louis was the answer made for this question.

It seems Louis shrinks every time these discussions come up. The guy was a near 6’2”, trained to the second 200 lb’r who punched well BEYOND his weight in lightning combinations that were technically perfect.

Riddick only has about 2 1/2” adv. in height but a more substantial 5” pull in reach. However, Bowe could negate his height and reach adv. like few fighters I’ve seen.

Add to that not so great defence which Bowe didn’t accent on in the first place, Riddick was a very reachable and hittable boxer.

So I guess we’re talking a weight of about 235 lb’r for Bowe. How does that weight advantage come into play? I don’t recall Bowe being disposed to clinching, mauling and shoving (an actual CREDIT to Riddick).

Rather, he was a no nonsense, clean punching guy which is good for Louis. Louis had greater speed and technique and will be working with a big and not so mobile or well protected target - exactly as he would like it.

I’m not saying this is easy for Joe, not at all but I think he can eventually break Bowe down and perhaps KO or stop him.

This could actually be a great fight in
terms of styles - in some ways similar to Holyfield v Bowe. Guys who actually fight clean without a hint of spoiling tactics.

    Yet Schmeling knocked him out.

Schmeling who was excellent puncher and made his career of stopping durable contenders.
