Calzaghe to WBO president Francisco Valcarel:
This probably means the Roy Jones fight won't be Joe's farewell bout - I guess he's leaving the door open for a Pavlik fight for the 168 title(s). Roy for the big money, Pavlik for the fans, not a bad way to leave the sport.

Good Q. He's leaving the door open. Remaining the WBO SMW champ win or lose in September is a smart move. He can still have a farewell world title bout in Wales if he loses or a superfight vs. Pavlik if he wins.

I honestly think if he loses there will b an immediate rematch in Wales, at probably 168 between RJ and Calzaghe, b/c I heard there is a rematch clause in the fight.

If he wins then he probably fights Pavlik

Of course he will fight again should he lose , another $ 5- 10 million if he loses or another $20 mill if he wins dictates this , he didn't **** Warren off for nothing , saving between 10 -20 % of his final two purses amount to a massive saving .

DLh will call him out and will work out a catch weight fight in wales or wembly stadiium (or however you spell it). remember DLH said he always wanted to fight in THE UK and in front of 50k plus fans how else could this be achieved and DECEMBER is just enough time after sept20

I personally don't think the Pavlik fight will happen. Calzaghe wants to have one last fight in Cardif and I don't think Bob Arum will agree to send Pavlik there. It's a huge risk for him, while he can make millions while Pavlik is undefeated in the states, especially when Pavlik can make superfights against Winky and Abraham in his natural weight at home.
I see Calzaghe's last title defence being against Jermain Taylor, if he gets past Jeff Lacy. Taylor has no other big money fight to chase, and I'm pretty sure that for a big payday he will be willing to travel.

I don't like all these money fights mate , Calzaghe should have fought pavlik post kessler unification then retired win lose or draw ,however in terms of future earnings anything is possible and he cannot be slated for doing so , he might as well jump on the money bandwagon what with the figures being banded about , and who can really blame him ?

:rofl That fight will never happen. Hatton has a better chance at making De La Hoya fight in the UK.

see it is possible and JC is not stupid he know he's getting older and knows he is declining. he wants to secure his legacy and will want to make the most possible. it is definatly do-able. JC wants to retire undefeated and with tone of cash. don't be surprised if he gets called out also they are so close in age and height and the media will eat up DLH story line to be the first 7 weight champ:good
