The problem with this is of course that, unlike us, the writers that heaped praise on him 130 or so years ago, had not seen what boxing would develop into in the following century. If someone had brought a film of prime Joe Louis back in a time machine, for them to see... would they still have thought so highly of Sullivan?
Some of those nostalgic old-timers swore that Jim Corbett would box Louis’ ears off, so it’s not completely outside the realm of possibility.
I would love to see this John Sullivan footage that everyone seems to have given how confident they are in if he would win/lose this.
How the fight goes from a fundamental or strategic stadnpoint is anyone's guess, I don't like the idea of Sullivan's right hand colliding with Kovalev's chin though. On top of that, Corbett said Sullivan had the speed of Dempsey while weighing 20+ pounds more! He's probably gonna taste it eventually
