Headlining a card at Yunost Arena in Chelyabinsk on April eighteenth. Airing live on Матч Боец in Russia with a supplemental international live stream on the IBA Boxing channel on YouTube. Ten rounds scheduled at cruiserweight.

Kovalev, formerly The Man™ at light heavyweight and widely dreaded for his (literally) deadly knockout power, is now 42 years old and hasn't scored a stoppage victory since popping the cherry of Anthony Yarde in August of 2019. We're talking more than six months before you ever heard the phrase "Covid", to put things in perspective.

Mann, a Kazakh born naturalized German, has enjoyed a much less storied career but is a natural cruiser as well as eight years his opponent's junior and one inch taller. Pretty much all his previous steps up in class have been defeats, but against CW titlists in Briedis and Lerena or natural heavyweights in Tischenko and Gadzhimagomedov.

Too bad that Kov still feels the need or needs to fight. Awsome fighter. His career should have ended much better than this. Hope he wins.

For some reason I was confusing Artur Mann with Lyndon Arthur.

    Also Manns nickname is "Thunderman"

If there has ever been anyone ready for two nicknames it's Artur

    "King" Artur "The Main" Mann

Apparently this is it for him, he just wanted to have a farewell fight, and to leave the sport on a high note.

Hope he goes out on a high note. KO of the year type ending would be deserving.

Kovalev is tiny for a cruiser. He wasn't even huge for a LHW. If he couldn't make LHW anymore he needed to retire regardless. Pulev was massive compared to him.
I remember Cleverly, who was about the size of Kov, spent an extended period bulking up just to fight at cruiser because he was too light just to fight there simply by not cutting and getting fat.

I know very little about Mann but Kovalev's punch resistance vanished long ago. I suspect he's seriously vulnerable to any solid punches.

Mann is trash, isn't all that big or aggressive and his power is minimal. Kovalev picked the perfect opponent for his retirement fight. He might even finish his career with a sweet brutal KO exclamation point.

This schedule is listed on Moscow time, btw (the place where Матч Боец is headquartered), not Chelyabinsk. So the program is airing from 19:30 - or 7:30pm - until midnight in MST, which is half past noon until 5pm EST. It'll be 1am local time (11pm in Moscow and 4pm on the American east coast) when the main event ring walks occur, and 2am when they sign off.

Hoping Kovalev can end his career on a high note. His last performance bummed me out, and I didn't even see his prime years.

Best of luck in this last hurrah and in retirement champ :ggg
