On the Usyk vs. Fury undercard, 33 days from now. Ten rounds at cruiserweight.

Kovalev will have been inactive for 21 months since jumping up to CW and outpointing Tervel Pulev. That somewhat underwhelming contest itself had already followed a 2½ year layoff. The former light heavyweight champion turn 41 years old less than seven weeks later.

Sirwan Safar, a Swede of Kurdish descent and now like Kovalev residing in the USA (in Las Vegas, while the Russian is based in Fort Lauderdale) is a decade younger and three inches taller, and has spent half as long on the shelf. His entire career has been fought at Cruiser.

Was always a huge fan of Sergey Kovalev. Really humble guy and great fighter. The bottle and ignorance destroyed his career. Will root for him as always.

Same but this doesn't look good for him on paper.

At least with Pulev it was a bigger 16-0 man but older and feather-fisted. Safar, coincidentally also 16-0, is even bigger than Pulev, much younger, and is a banger.

Pulev and Safar also have the same best result: victory over DeShon Webster, except Pulev took him the distance and Safar made him quit in 5. Their second best to date are shot Valery Brudov and shot Denis Grachev respectively.

Krusher has already begun training, working for now with Uzbek coach Ruslan Telimbaev while he waits for Buddy McGirt Sr. to fly out for camp.

I know nothing about the other guy. Kovalev is older long layoff even though he won his last fight 2 years ago he looked pretty shot.

Safar is a close friend of mine, he’s a bad boy with a lot of power. I’m really happy for him that he got this fight and I’m excited to see him retire Kovalev.

Safar is younger, bigger and hungry. He have a pretty solid amateur career, multiple Swedish champion and used to beat up Otto Wallin in sparring.

The only thing that is against Safar is that this is his first big fight but I believe he have a real chance to win, Safar by KO.

I thought it was interesting that in that interview he seemed to regard Wallin as more or less his equal/peer but seemed to view Badou Jack with some resentment. The whole "it'd be nice if he agreed to a torch passing but I don't think it'll happen"...?

Jack and Safar used to be friends and they used to train/spar together but had a falling out when Safar moved to Vegas…

I’ve been following Kovalev’s socials for a while now and he looks completely shot in training. The last video of him was a sparring session and his punches were slow and his reflexes were damn near non existent. I hate to say it but Kovalev is getting knocked out in this match.

Safar by KO. I expect Kovalev to show his age and inactivity.
But it´s a winnable fight for Kovalev.

    Is Kov getting KOd?

He’s been out for 2 years fighting a huge guy and banger. Is he going out for the pay cheque?

Kov is getting battered here and hopefully will call it quits.
