One thing you have to respect about Canelo though is his slipping ability. It's going to be super interesting to see how well he can slip Kovalev's jab, @bandeedo do you think Canelo's head movement will play a big factor in this fight?

I think he's going to follow the instructions of Buddy. Which is to hit him everywhere, everyone is so focuses with landing to the head and body, but if he does enough damage to his chest and arms, that will get him skittish and defending everywhere over time, and zap his energy. Leaving him vulnerable late. Also, we have no idea how the extra weight will effect Canelo, who was starting to pick his spots and pace himself in the third against Rocky.

Remember when Kovalev had that spear-like jab to the body around 2013-2016? That's a big key to beating Canelo imo, I feel like he's gotten away from that. Also Douglin said something about how he couldn't even raise his arms after getting punched in the arms by Kov. So I agree with you, he needs to focus just hitting Canelo even if it's blocked more than headshots.

undoubtedly. i think canelo is going to struggle getting in range the first few rounds. his head movement will keep him from taking much punishment as he tries to get inside, but kovalev will deny him the range by stepping back when canelo advances. eventually canelos feints and the pace of the fight will see kovalev take that back step less and less, and thats when canelo will start to do his best work.

Hell get close enough... Kovalev will be the one coming forward to Canelo imo, and in that case Canelo will use his best traits which is his counter punching ability.. Kovalev will have a tough time hitting Canelo clean, and when he over commits Canelo will make him pay.. well see though..

I really don't think people are comprehending the power difference between GGG and Kovalev. Yeah, yeah, yeah, all of the GGGoons on here for years have tried to say he hits harder than a HW, and I called bull**** on that from day one. I even said he'd lose to Ward and Froch. So power will play a huge part in this. I don't think Kovalev will be coming forward, I think he'll fight Canelo just like he fought Eleider in the second fight and Yarde. Kovalev is a smart fighter and he and Buddy will realize that's what Canelo wants, and they won't give it to him. If he lays back on the backfoot and makes Canelo work for it, he can pour on the punishment and slowly break him down, punching him anywhere he can land, because they know Canelo's stamina is not great, so if they play it safe early, chopping away at him, that will probably pay dividends in the last 6. Then he'll slowly amp up the pressure, then hurt Canelo and finish him late. McGirt is a smart man and the Kovalev whisperer. Kovalev actually trusts him and will follow his instructions.

@CST80 I feel like a jackass hating on young fighters, but am I the only one that would find it funny if that goofy ass lanky gen z kid Tristan Kalkreuth got knocked out.
