what will you say if he beats stevenson, or hopkins. stevenson was never anything, and hopkins was shot?
That's kinda the difference - 'cept the Campillo victory there's just nothing that special 'bout Fonfara (and of course he was well on a way to a drubbing there) - Fonfara has done nothing of real note but is a bit better known than Agnew. It was always gonna be a challenge for Kovalev to get the dcent fights this year though, in essence every available (ie those not with GBP) top LHW was already beaten by either Adonis or Sergei within the last 12 months and Stevenson's got the financial backing to take the pick of the remainder. There is only one fight that matters at LHW, but I'm OK with waiting, so long as happens this year, I'm happy.
If Kovalev is "eurotrash" why are you predicting he'll beat a 26-0 slick American boxer like Cedric Agnew? How did a "eurotrash" guy like Kovalev beat all those slick American boxers like Lionell Thompson, Grover Young, Terrance Woods and Cornelius White?
Sergey Kovalev vs. Cedric Agnew (26-0, age 27) is set for March 29. Cedric Agnew's Amateur Highlights: - Won a gold medal in the 2003 United States National Junior Olympics at 189lbs. - Won a gold medal in the 2003 Sweden Cup for Under-19's at 178lbs. - Won a gold medal in the 2004 Chicago Golden Gloves at 178lbs. - Won a silver medal in the 2004 National Golden Gloves at 178lbs. - Won a gold medal in the 2004 United States Under-19 Championships at 178lbs. - Competed in the 2005 United States Championships at 81kg. - Won a gold medal in the 2006 Chicago Golden Gloves at 178lbs. Agnew is not a bad opponent while Sergey is waiting for Stevenson.
Obviously they just wanna keep him winning. As long as the Stevenson fight happens afterwards then I'm cool with it.
He's ranked by all 4 sanctioning organizations: IBF #3, WBA #6, WBC #13 and WBO #15. As a pro, he fought the usual journeymen/fringe contenders such as Yusaf Mack (who was given a title shot against Carl Froch). He's fought pretty much the same level of opposition that Kovalev fought before Cleverly, and Stevenson fought before Dawson.
Kovalev's next fight should be against Pascal. It would give a showdown against Stevenson even more momentum.
"If you take away Johnson & Campillo their records are similar" What the **** are you talking about:blood Idiotic argument Stevenson is fighting a much better opponent. Fonfara sucks, but the fact is Agnew sucks even more. And his record consists of bums
