Sergey been said he wanted to punish dudes before. Sergey been said he wanted to kick someone's ass before. Sergey been made jokes before (Adonis racist attacks, Ward nicknames). Basically, Sergey been doing Sergey. We didn't see anything new leading up to the fight.

But Ward wan't the Ward he been before in the rematch.

Ward never played no mental games. Ward never talked (much) trash. For the rematch, Ward went to the extreme. Ward clearly knew that he LOST the first fight, so he needed do things to convince himself that he could win in the rematch. Ward felt that he had to do anything and everything to gain a mental edge. There were the puerile pre-fight mental games and then the planned ruthless nut assault on fight night.

Also, Ward conceded that it was a very close fight and acknowledged the controversy behind the decision. Kovalev said with complete and total conviction that he was robbed and never deviated from this viewpoint.

Ward had a mental edge because of the things you're saying actually.

I don't think the things Ward did/said gained him any kind of mental edge. Sergey probably didn't understand most of the things Ward and his team said. Where was the proof that Ward's mental warfare worked? I had it 5-2 for Sergey leading up to the eighth round. Most people had it a close/even fight...

Don't just be a eunuch about it. Try dismantling my argument in the original post.

Kovalev is just a better boxer than Ward honestly so he was pretty much always going to be ahead in the match unless something weird happened (which it did). Kovalev was obviously aware of what Ward and the people around him were doing. There were tons of distractions leading into their fight and even in the aftermath. We have Kov being done with JDJ, may be done with Main Events, needs to find a new trainer, future in boxing pretty uncertain. All of that would have been the same if Kov won too. Ward didn't have to deal with any of these problems and he could just focus on their match. Kovalev's mind was likely all over the place.

If he had the mental edge why did he feel sorry for himself and pretty much quit ?

Easy enough! You joined this forum today and you have already created this thread and "Castillo-Corrales And Joshua-Klitschko Are Reasons Why Ward-Kovalev 2 Was A Terrible Stoppage..."

You are clearly a troll or extremely delusional.
Either way, there is no need to really argue with you.

In other words, you can't really make a case against Kovalev having a mental edge over Ward. Thank you.

Ward had the mental edge simply due to having the belts and threatening to retire with them. So kovelav had to wait anxiously to see what Ward would decide to do. Then when negotiations took place SK would have to concede to his demands if he wanted to reclaim his belts.

All the while Kovalev is rightly concerned with getting robbed again, so Ward plays on that by refusing to have impartial judges and once again Kovalev has little choice but to accept.

All that uncertainty is bound to play havoc anyone's mind especially when one has already been cheated. Then you have Ward's trainer accusing Kovalev of being a drunk simply because he is from Russia and the anger begins to swell.

Ward played psychological warfare 101 on Kovalev, but it was due to circumstances where mainly everything happened to be in his court to enable him to play these cowardly games.

We'll never know for sure, but I think that even if Kovalev had KO'd Ward, he would have fired Jackson anyway. But I'm talking about the rematch. Kovalev was still Kovalev. Ward was the one that had to resort to all types of shenanigans to pump up his confidence. It's usually the guy that's calm and not acting differently that has the mental edge. To say that Ward had a mental edge over Kovalev, you have to show Kovalev acting out of character.

Didn't you say Kovalev was going to make Ward pay and seriously injure Ward in this rematch?

Yes I did say he'd make him pay and only reported that Kovalev wished to do him serious damage.

Unfortunately I didn't think Ward would be turning up roided out of his skull. Neither did I foresee that the ref would allow Ward to do whatever the hell he wanted to in that ring. It only dawned on me that Ward was going to do whatever it takes to win by any and all means necessary, was when I saw him fist pump the ref before he went to his corner to pray to Satan and noticed all the acne seeping through the pours of every fibre in his skin. It all made sense as to why he was suddenly of this belief that he was capable of knocking people out.
