I couldn't agree more, Kovalev is an excellent boxer in addition to wielding savage power and contrary to the nonsense many will try and have you believe he's mentally very strong too.

You should give credit to Alvarez chin. Especially in their second fight.

Instead of trying for a knockout Kovalev implemented a different style against Alvarez that relied more on speed and less on power to ensure a points victory.

Kovalev is a power puncher. But, no power puncher has a 100% KO ratio, and some guys have great chins, and durability, along with decent defense. Kovalev has very good power, he gets the chumps out of there. The guys he didn't KO were known to be durable guys. Who had KO'd Hopkins up to that point? Who had KO'd Alvarez, or Chilemba? Nobody. At the elite level, he did drop Hopkins, dropped Ward, and dropped Chilemba.

Ya totally agree I definitely feel he gave a less than spirited effort. Was it down to Kovalev's power, making him gun shy or only other thing I can think of(and if true it's even worse imo, especially for a world class fighter and training team) was he and his team were so convinced Kovalev was shot to bits and Alvarez was inevitably going to highlight reel him again........ with literally no other backup/contingency plan, nothing. Thats just absolutely crazy and hope its not the case.

Another interesting point you made was how Alvarez was circling away from Kovalev's power hand almost the entire fight. Going into the fight I figured Kovalev would spend the entire fight circling away from Alvarez right hand until his gas tank hit empty and subsequently got dropped like an anchor. And he did a good job of circling away from Alvarez right hand at exactly the right times, he knew when it was possibly a threat and other times he knew he was dictating space and pace while Alvarez wasnt in position to counter. To my surprise, it was the exact opposite. From the moment the first 2 or 3 solid shots from Kovalev hit him, almost the entire rest of the fight he spent circling away from his power hand when they were center ring. I mean it was almost like right when he first got touched up, he straight up kicked it in and didnt even bother trying to put up a fight, instead just trying to survive and last the distance, though he did end up having his moments.

I gotta say, I was completely blown away with McGirt's gameplan and subtle yet simple improvements and adjustments he made with Kovalev, he truly is a GREAT trainer. He just gameplanned Kovalev to pace himself, told him to keep his hands busy -- not throwing ppower shots but boxing him and putting his mitts on him as often as possible and solid corner advice all fight long in between rounds. So simple but so genius at the same time. And you called it man, how you foresaw it I'll never know but you did and you had total conviction in it. I mean it basically played out EXACTLY how you said it would. I was astonished to say the least.
