Sergey Kovalev "Golovkin has a hard head never seen him down"

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by SaltyMeatBall, May 19, 2016.

  1. Kovalev said he sparred GGG for 1 and half years and he never seen GGG close to being dropped and said his head is "Hard"

This begs the question is it possible to hurt GGG?

I find that very impressive (assuming it's correct), Kovalev is a huge puncher even in sparring.

Abel Sanchez said that GGG used to get the better of Kovalev in sparring. Though he did add that Kovalev was a relative novice at the time while GGG was already a world title holder.

Kovalevs trainer is on record saying Kovalev didn't wanna hurt his friend during sparring so he took it easy on him.

Kovalevs trainer said Kov told him he didn't want to hurt his friend (GGG) during sparring so it took it easy.

Kovalev said, in an interview, that Golovkin was very good fighter and he picks Golovkin to beat Alvarez, no doubt................................................

I saw that too. To be honest, I don't tend to believe trainers, either Sanchez or Jackson.

Kovalev has improved a lot since they sparred though.

I seem to recall something similar. IIRC he said that Golovkin was relentless even in sparring and that he had to really put down the power to keep him off, and that he didn't want to hurt his pal.

No doubt that Kovalev has improved since then. Frankly Kovalev vs GGG head to head, I take Kovalev, but that's mainly because he is much the bigger man and has insane power. Golovkin has a skill edge.

Actually it's pretty scary when Kovalev is the guy that wants to pull his punches ... can you imagine pressing the action against Sergei and trying to walk through those bombs? I'm guessing that GGG vs Krusher sparring was better than most title fights we've seen.
