Kovalev is an A level talent who has faced and defeated other A level talents.

Golovkin is an A level talent who has faced and defeated mostly C level fighters, and now he's targeting guys 2 weight classes below him.

Their skills are on par, but Kovalev is the one seeking out great challenges while Golovkin is cherry picking smaller no-hopers for paydays.

I don't agree that Hopkins was A- level when Kovalev beat him.

He was soundly beaten by Dawson two years earlier and i wouldn't class Dawson as A level.

But you're right about Kovalev beating better fighters than GGG. But the gap isn't that wide imo

Well I still think Hopkins was A level, and he was certainly much, much better than anyone Golovkin has faced to date (not necessarily Gennady's fault, but it is what it is).

And I definitely think Dawson was an A level boxer until he met Andre Ward.

Golovkin's best victory is still Murray, and he's been moving backwards rather than forwards in terms of his opposition since then.

Golovkin is seeking out similar challenges. He wants to beat everyone in his division, unify the titles and make money. Same things Kovalev is trying to achieve.

That's the only reason for the farce of a "fight" against Brook.

That and the fact that there weren't any other great options for him at short notice.

Do you guys know anything about boxing? Ward is kryptonite to both lil g and kkkov's style. He's gonna give kov a boxing lesson, and would throw ggg around the ring while hitting him with power shots the whole time.

Ward is far superior to both. Kkkovalev has fought much better opp than triple g. Too hard to call they're pretty damn equal.

Just for interest, here's GGG best 10 wins vs Kovalev's best 10 wins (I'm a fan of both, so no agenda here):

    GGG
    Lemiuex
    Murray
    Rubio
    Geale
    Stevens
    Monroe Jr
    Rosado
    Macklin
    Proksa
    Ishida

    Kovalev
    Hopkins
    Pascal 1
    Chilemba
    Pascal 2
    Cleverly
    Mohammedi
    Caparello
    Campillo
    Boone 2
    Agnew/Sillakh/White

Think the main difference is that Kovalev has two A-level fighters, Hopkins and Pascal.

The rest is pretty similar in level, Lemiuex/Murray/Geale/Rubio are not worse than Chilemba/Cleverly/Mohammedi.

I guess just how wide the gap is depends how much weight you place on the best couple of names on a resume vs the rest.

Good post^. I don't actually think Pascal and that version of Hopkins were all that great tbh. They are better than Golovkin's opponents but guys like Saunders, Canelo, Cotto, Martinez have avoided Golovkin.

To be honest Chilemba is probably better than Lemieux and Murray, GGG best wins.

But skill wise it's a toss up.

Harold Lederman gave Kovalev the 4th as well, even though I scored it before he did, and I'll go out on a limb here and say Harold is a way better judge than you, you prolapsed horse's rectum.

Because he's annoyed that I know way more than he does, (about everything not just Boxing:yep) and feels very insecure about it. So he lashes out at me.

I actually agree here, but most posters would probably consider them at a similar level.

If GGG was a naturally bigger man he would make easy work of Ward. Golovkin's style is all wrong for Ward. GGG can cut off the ring with the best of them. Pure boxers like room to operate.
