Kovalev is jabbing his way in and draping his right arm over Ward's back to pull him down & closer in. Ward is rolling the left out like a waterwheel to parry away Kovalev's jab and occasionally twitch-feinting outward before pulling. Kovalev stuns him with a stiff jab sliding forward as Ward plants his feet and reaches with his own jab, half a beat late in the exchange. Clinch. Ward is showing the jab-feint and changing elevation with it, climbing and descending to match the location of Kovalev's own left, shooting in lightly to abut the fist and hold it still when Kovalev begins telegraphing a jab.

Kovalev is targeting Ward's body with a sinking right, starting at chest height and plowing into the upper abdomen. Ward is scurrying to his left and flashing out a high jab at Kovalev's nose to keep the champ honest. Kovalev breaks through Ward's guard with a 1-2. Multiple hard piston jabs by Kovalev walking the challenger down. Ward giving him space. Kovalev is swinging ihs left by his knee as he sallies forth confidently, stalking Ward. Jab-feint downstairs by Kovalev. Ward reacts with a combo, moving himself off his alignment. Kovalev takes advantage before Ward can square back up and get his bearings. HARD chopping right hand by Kovalev rushing in behind a jab, and Ward goes down! Body shots, uppercuts, and clubbing rights inside by Kovalev, bullying Ward on the ropes. Ward navigates free and backs up, blocking jabs.
