Why oh why would Kovalev ever do that I wonder? Maybe because Ward is a world renown headbutter maybe?

Ward will give him the rematch I think because without each other the division has only what, Stevenson? And who knows with that guy.

The rematch is Wards to lose.

He had Kovalev figured out halfway throughout and it showed. I only gave Kovalev one round after the sixth, the tenth. MAYBE the twelth but I scored that round even.

Ward knows how to fight him. If he hadn't been caught could early, he would have won convincingly. And that's what's going to happen in the rematch unless Kovalev makes serious alterations in his gameplan.

Ward WILL NEVER step in the ring with Kovalev!!!

Remember all those threads? There must have been 70 of them. All variations on a theme.

And if he ever did step in Kovalev, KRUSHER would annihilate him! The Co-ward!

Instead, what happened? A close fight where down the stretch Sergey is getting beat up to the body and winded. Andre coming on strong, winning the second half of the fight on grit, courage, and heart. Sergey showed his mettle too, but considering how Ward was supposed to be all soft and glass-chinned, kind of interesting how it turned out.

I think Kovalev is able to make the right adjustments. He is a smart fighter but he will need to keep up the tempo longer and be more versatile or Ward will figure him out by the mid rounds again.

Not at all. Kovalev's interior defense has always been ... the headlock. Any cursory review of film confirms this. He simply has little inside game and wanted absolutely no part of Andre up close.

I didn't have any more beer or wine in the house and knew a store run was dangerous (in the process of quitting cigarettes for the billionth time in recent memory - and besides, probably shouldn't have been drinking on painkillers anyway) so I remained prostrate on the couch while Hooker vs. Pérez unfolded, in hindsight definitely a mistake.

That's a shame. Pérez is quality, but at 33 and already above his peak weight, the opportunities are going to start drying up for him in a hurry, and since he already has a handful of draws and losses in his most high-profile matches he can't really afford too many non-positive results these days lest those his risk-reward become prohibitive enough that even those few opportunities are closed off to him. He does have some decent scalps but neither Argenis López, Baha Mamadjanov, nor Jonathan Maicelo have the name value to counteract the perception that he chokes in the ones that count.
