for sure theres a reason the 175lber Ward is doing all he can to stay out of 175 this guy can beat a Klitschko, but he cant beat a steamroller :yep
Yes because Hopkins is your average 49 year old boxer atsch And it's not Kovalev's fault the ref allowed Hopkins to go out on his shield instead of stopping the fight in the 12th round. Edit: Title Bout Championship Boxing says that Ward out throws and out lands Kovalev with Ward landing 115 (317) to Kovalev's 75 (143) and Ward wins the fight 118-112 (x3)
Ward is a amazing fighter and will never be beat at 168,but i have Kovalev by ko if they ever fight, too strong, punches too hard and his boxing skills, ability to cut off the ring and speed are massively underrated.
Anyone who gives GGG the business about not moving up to face Ward should be asking the same questions of Andre. The guy already became the undisputed, undefeated SMW champ, so why does he want to stick around beating up on smaller guys when he should move up challenge himself? Afterall, this is a guy who made mention of becoming a HW champ at one point in the not too distant past. The double standards around here can be ridiculous. As to my pick, I would have to actually favor Ward. I think he might not be as strong, but he could tie Kovalev up, keep him pivoting, unable to set his power and possibly outbox him to a MD.
It was a close fight. Everyone thinking with their mind was expecting Floyd to win. Floyd has a size advantage and a much longer reach. With Kovalev, Ward is fighting a guy who is at the same size, can cut off the ring, can box and can punch harder on the P4P scale than 99% of boxers out there.
I didn't see the Mayweather/Pac fight as being close at all but that's just me. If Ward fights Kovalev, he won't have to worry about cutting of the ring. Ward will be there in the pocket right in front of him beating him to the punch all night long.
Kovalev will do a job on him. Hard to tie up a bigger guy with a wider mean streak than you, who is excellent at controlling distance and who has sticks of dynamite in his hands. Ward may do well at first, but I think Kovalev will grind him down over the stretch.
Would be the toughest fight for either they have both taken. Both have looked pretty much unbeatable to date, if I was to give the edge to anyone it would be Ward. He's a very versatile fighter who is capable of taking away an opponents strengths and as good as Kovalev's footwork is, Wards is better. Kovalev of course is very, very dangerous he has more than enough power to stop Ward if he connects flush.
This is a tough stylistic match up for Ward plus I think Kovalev is bigger as well But I still wouldn't be surprised if Ward won
