So was the Kovalev KD also a case of Chilemba's weak defense or Kovalev's "bone shattering" power? Sorry dude but you can't have it both ways. The FACT of the matter is Chilemba got put down not once but TWICE by a guy with a *50%* KO ratio. The TOMATO KAN Krusher, with all of his "bone shattering" power was unable to improve upon this. If you're gonna come in here and talk about Chilemba's "weak defense" then I see no reason why we can't attribute the Kovalev KD to that as well. 1 + 1 = 2
You're coming at me with just the hard data on paper. As we all know, that never tells a whole story when it comes to boxing. Qualitative analysis ftw, bruh. Watch the above video and tell me, was Chilemba hurt after either knockdown? Or did he shoot up immediately and start to raise hell? Now watch this: This content is protected Homeboy is first off made to obviously wince from a nasty left hook on the liver (almost putting him down itself), and then SHORT-CIRCUITED for a time by the big RH... from 0:08 seconds in when he gets clipped until long after he beats the count, literally still dizzy 0:34 seconds in when they resume action, before getting saved by the bell. If you can't tell what an obvious difference there is there, well, I've done my part and led you down riverside, but you're clearly not a thirsty horse.
I think kovalev can win if he uses his jab and sticks to the body early but if I have to bet I'll take the proven smarter fighter. And the oscar goes to......Andre ward. For his epic acting job in his last two performances.
I meant to post exactly those points in my breakdown earlier. Jabs (even though Ward is probably considered by most to be the superior jabber here) and body shots are going to be key for Kovalev to pick this lock and then bust the door open.
Krusher has great respect for Ward. Both are respectable guys. Ward must have Wladimir type trainers on. Surly he's not that taller. He was shorter than Froch.
I didn't give any analysis, whatsoever. I said Ward has been in there with elite competition, that has brought it to him before. Kovalev has been in there with 48yr old B Hop and Pascal. So if the 'experience' angle is something you're looking at, you'd have to give that to ward. Ward hasn't fought below 172 in 14 months, he is not looking like a small LHW to me.
If Ward wins, I expect it to be in a similar fashion that Crawford won against Postol. Lots of movement, potshotting and just generally taking sting off any of the punches by headmovement and not giving any target whatsoever. It could be really boring actually but it seems to be the key/blueprint for a guy like Ward who's more skilled and athletic to beating a guy who's somewhat rangier, perhaps stronger than himself and is also a decent boxer.
44-39-3, Ward. All this narrow see-sawing in the polling...this is feeling eerily reminiscent of Tuesday of last week.
BUT, Ward seems to be somewhat more static these days than he used to be. So it's going to be interesting, he might not actually be able to pull off this kind of strategy at 175.
He is from the city of The Athletics... (It would be dope btw if he entered the ring in the gold and green, showing he isn't some fair-weather bandwagon Stan in Warriors gear)
