Kovalev is past his prime. The argument now is he at the pinnacle of his decline or not? In other words, does he have one more very good performance left in him, or has the time passed.

I'd like to see he fight with Canelo.

Yarde had the athleticism, chin, mentality, and even technical skills to win, but he just didn't have the right gameplan. Kovalev's weak spot is the body, especially the belly button. Yarde should have employed a high guard and focused on Kovalev's body, instead of using a shoulder roll and trying to counter Kovalev with left hooks and right hands. When he did walk Kovalev down with a high guard and went to the body in the 7th round, Yarde had good success. It was a bit like Miocic Vs Cormier, where Miocic was losing until he dug the left hook to the body which changed the entire fight. Yarde abandoned the approach in the 8th and went headhunting wildly.

No, Kovalev's weak spot is below the belt, his gonads.

Andre Ward set the blueprint: the way to beat Sergey Kovalev is to repeatedly punch him in the balls, and make sure you have a dishonest ref to permit it and call it a TKO when he bends over in pain.

    It was a great performance.

I like how yarde showed his natural abilities and he showed how good he is

    - good chin

    - ok gas tank

-speed and athleticism were ok at times was outspeeding kovalev early on
    -decent power
-for a guy with limited experience in amature and pro and for a guy who dosent spar he showed that he came close to stopping a champion

    ^ not bad

He exceeded the expectations of many on here saying hes gonna get stopped in 5 rounds or less

-Kovalev is one mean son of a *****

    -killer instinct still has ot

    -has enough to beat canelo

    - jab one of the best in the business still.

    - still willing to face high risk fighters even at this age

    ^

    Kovalev is a great fighter
He will succeed against canelo where golovkin failed

Kovalev was caught high on the ribs vs yarde and faked it like he got low blowed. does that count as a low blow too?

Yarde has been in one big fight with Kovalev and he took a good punch in this fight up until the time he was stopped, but we don't know that much about him. And he was still knocked out. By exhaustion more than a punch, but I don't think a loss by knockout really proves a guy has a great chin. Regardless of circumstances or how many punches he took before he was knocked out.

Yeah it was odd with Curry. And Mike was better than the other guys Curry fought, but Curry slipped since his welterweight days. I like Yarde, but let's see what he has in the next few years...

Experience was the difference, and it's sad a professional fighter at that weight gassed out after 8 rounds. Yarde was very amateurish trying to finish Kovalev when he had him hurt.
