Just because you keep saying that Rios initiated all the clinches doesn't make it fact.

Just like the replay that showed Chaves headbutt Rios like 3 times in a row before Rios retaliated.

Keep on pretending that it was all Rios.

rios resorted to smothering and headbutting cause chavez was eating him up from the outside. rios can't fricken box worth **** against anyone good outside. chavez didn't want anything to do with him up close though.

Yeah I never thought Rios would win a boxing match, Chaves adjusted because he had to, Rios hurt him more than Thurman.
So we were both wrong, and both kind of right.

If he's going to fall in and wrap his arm around the other guy, he should drop the cry baby ****. He had his arm around Abril in that fight too, but all you heard about was Abril holding.
Maybe start using a jab to get inside instead of falling in and smothering himself.

Drakulich saved Mayweather in the first Castillo fight…i love how everyone conveniently forgets that.
Took a point from castillo and constantly broke up the in-fighting.

Further hypocrisy was that floyd was wearing mexican Cleto's that fight (as he did in EVERYONE of his early fights.

The short memories around here are hilarious.

I invited friends to my place who are casual fans and told them it would be a FOTY candidate. One of them is passed out drunk on my couch. Thanks, Vic. Always been one of the most spastic douche refs out there for as long as I can remember.

I know that was a durty fight, but that ddt Chavez did on Rios was the last straw, man. It was obvious Chavez was tiring and looking for a way out.

The Kovalev vs Caparello fight was predictably an annihilation, and the 1+ rounds scored themselves because of the knockdowns.

The 1st round began with Kovalev stalking and Caparello pawing his jab. Then 35 seconds in, Caparello threw an overhand L into Kovalev's gloves, then Kovalev stalked Caparello into a corner and landed a jab and a good R to the body. Caparello escaped, moved around the periphery, threw an overhand L into Kovalev's arms, the two exchanged potshot overhands, then halfway through the round, Caparello landed an overhand L which Kovalev countered with a good overhand R. Kovalev again stalked Caparello into a corner, Caparello landed a L to the body, then Caparello stepped forward from the corner onto Kovalev's front foot while Kovalev was in a squared stance, and landed a straight L bang on Kovalev's chin, sending him backwards down to a knee for a ruled knockdown. Caparello followed with a couple looping misses, clinch, Caparello threw a L to the body that was partially blocked. Kovalev landed a good straight R with about 40 seconds left in the round, then was warned for a rabbit punch, then landed another good straight R and moved in with winging shots that missed, leading to a Caparello clinch. Kovalev landed a grazing R at the bell.

The 2nd round began with Kovalev stalking in closer quarters, and Caparello retreating, circling to his left. Kovalev threw a body shot and then an overhand R that didn't really land but had Caparello backing into a corner, and then Caparello landed a nice overhand L, and then a jab. With Caparello still in the corner, Kovalev partially landed a jab-straight R, then circled his right hand and landed a straight R. Caparello finally stepped out the corner and landed a couple looping L's to the body. But seconds later, Kovalev stepped forward and landed a hard overhand R to the liver area that forced Caparello to back up and take a knee for a knockdown. Caparello was up at 8 while taking a deep breath, but Kovalev immediately ran forward and landed a R to the body that forced Caparello right back into the same corner, then Kovalev threw 8-9 punches that didn't really land, so Caparello motioned “come on”, and Kovalev responded by again circling his right hand and throwing a hard straight R that bounced Caparello off the ring post onto his knee for another knockdown. Caparello bounced up at 2, but Kovalev again rushed him so that Caparello was STILL stuck in the SAME corner, and Kovalev teed off on him, landing a jab-straight R, another straight R, and then a final huge straight R to face-L hook- straight R to top of head-L hook-R hook-R torso 6-punch combination that had Caparello wilted into a deep crouch with his back against the corner post and the ropes. The referee stepped in, I believe ruling another official knockdown, and correctly waved off the fight at 1:25 into the round (no idea where the official time of 1:47 came from).

What did we learn about Kovalev tonight? Nothing! We already knew he is relentless, constantly stalking moving forward in straight lines, driving his opponents backwards, pounding them into submission with devastating straight right and left hand power shots (although tonight Kovalev seemed to hardly use his left hand) to head and body. We still have yet to see how well he can handle someone with elite boxing skills, or how well he can handle being taken beyond the 8th round. Caparello provided no resistance tonight; he carried his lead right hand at waist level, his left hand at chest level, and while he did have success with the occasional straight left or the overhand looping left, he was a sitting duck defensively, as he had no speed, no head or body movement, and no foot movement (he was stuck in the same corner for the entire 2nd round!!!). He could hardly even attempt a clinch!!! Thankfully, Kovalev is now finally in line for a huge fight, a November unification megafight with Hopkins, and I DO expect Hopkins will test Kovalev in ways we have not seen before.
