Callum Smith has mentioned he would be willing to fight the former 175lb division rule. Who would win this fight if it happened?
Callum would fight on the back foot for the first 6 rounds. He’d have a superior reach and is excellent at countering off the back foot too. Kovalev will have to press and he doesn’t have the best defence. In the second half, Kovalev will tire and Callum will press the action more. Callum’s a good body puncher too.
Smith is a monster at 168 due to his size and skill but he loses that size advantage at 175. If he starts hitting harder at 175 I might change my mind, but I'd go with Kov.
Other than a shot groves who has Weight bully Callum Smith beaten to be mentioned in the same breath as Kovalev? Kovalev stops Callum if it happens in the next 12 months. Otherwise age could just catch up with Kovalev- as it does with every fighter
Kovalev would Clubber Smith.. 168 is hanging on by a thread.. Plant vs Subway Financial advisor & Pt Actor shows you the state of the division
kovalev has never proved himself at 175, even if his formidable force at 168 suggests he could have a go at title level at 175. But Ko4clev was a LHW elite, this is another level, until Smithster meets that level.
Didn’t Smith struggle with middleweight skoglund and a k1 fighter? Overrated much! Kovalev eats him for breakfast!
Kovalev by KO. Sure... Smith has looked great against guys that really didn't have much of a chance but guys that have pedigree seem to have his number. Going back to the Groves fight, Groves was boxing him beautifully and winning that fight. Groves basically Froch'd himself in that fight (again) and would have done well to be a bit more conservative. If you look at recent wins, Hassan N'Dam was actually a Middleweight that was getting really old and not as mobile, versatile or just plain good as he once was. Totally out of his depth in that fight. Skoglund?? How good was he really? Who did he actually beat? This is a guy that is just over 1 year removed from a 12 round struggle to beat Nieky Holzken. Kov by KO in the mid rounds is what I'd bet. Also, Callum Smith would likely get KO'd by Canelo. His defense is questionable and Canelo's hard to hit.
Callum Smith is one of my favorite fighters in any weight class, he stops Kovalev...no doubt in my mind.
If Kovalev is not finished mentally he can still have a good few years left in him. The way he rebounded in the Alcarez rematch was grade-A championship stuff. Kovalev is still elite on his best night but I dont think he is THE man anymore. BTW....Callum is a weight bully. He better move up soon before he starts struggling to make weight and gets smashed by a less skilled fighter. He can easily grow into 175lbs and become a force.
Kovalev caves Callum's head in. This is the same guy who struggled with Holtzken & fought one armed Groves
